Is My Budgie A Male Or Female?

Featured Replies

okay i got this budgie nearly two months ago and told it was a she and i belive it could be as she/he acts like a she by chewing on basicly everything in the cage eg:cuttel fish bone, mineral stone, food bowls, swings, wood and the things i build for him/her to chew.

he/she makes loud chirp noises and mad sounds like shouting. it is very bossy towards my male (george Jr) who is in the same cage as him/her. he/she is about 9 months old nearly 10. also when i first had her/him the cere was brown and crusty but then went the colour it is in the pictures.

Good to see you here Jodie :( It IS a hen and others will help you with that also. She is a hen out of breeding condtion. Maybe a little young but definitely not in breeding condition.

So to double check, babies (as in not long out of nest) with a cere the same colour as Jodie's girl are generally boys?

NO....babies not long out of the nest that are boys have a purply pink cere. The budgie Jodie has is a hen of around 6-8 months of age approximately. Her cere looks as it would if she had just had her first moult and a brownish cere and now is in between breeding condition.
