Posted April 14, 200817 yr I was told on the weekend , that by putting a piece of garlic in the bottom of the seed bin that this will get rid of the moths that come in the seed . Has anyone tried this?
April 14, 200817 yr I've never tried it bt this is a huge problem at my place so I'd like to hear suggestions
April 14, 200817 yr Wouldnt work at the bottom of my seed bin as its a 44 gallon drum and about 110 kgs of seed on top Re the moths...I use a mozzie zapper in my birdroom...fries the little suckers and I also use sticky paper baits for the rest of the moths.

As far as im aware Kas you use the Garlic that has the purple streaks , its stronger . I guess if you put one on the bottom and maybe one in the middle it would cover the 44 . I have yet to try.
April 14, 200817 yr My seed drum is a large blue plastic 44 gallon one. It has a metal band at the top that locks into place...no moths get in
April 14, 200817 yr Around here the seed tends to have moths in it (or atleast the eggs as I can never see grubs) when it comes from the ctockfeed place.
April 14, 200817 yr You can bag up the seed in smaller bags and freeze it in the freezer for a couple of days to kill off moths.
April 14, 200817 yr I dont worry too much about them, I generally go through a bag of seed a week so it doesn't really last long enough for it to be a problem, plus my budgies like any grubs they find! Like a little protein snacky.
April 14, 200817 yr I use to buy golden cob, never had moths , now i mix my own and the moths are back , but the ail spray does kill them pretty quick.
