Bluey Passed Away And Now Tweety Won't Eat.

On saturday morning, I found that bluey had passed away over night. :( She had been sick that week, we took her to the vet, and had been giving her the medicine but I guess she lost the battle with it. I completely cleaned out the cage, and changed the water and seed for Tweety. At first she ate a little a few hours after I had removed Bluey, but she hasnt been eating at all since then. She just sits at the same part of the cage. I don't really want to have to introduce a new bird to her as some family members don't want a replacement for Bluey. Any advice on how I can help her eat and get past this sad time?

l'm sorry for your recent loss :(

she is grieving in her own way. l'm sure that she will eat her seeds when she is hungry. she may stay like this for a week or a few days. just give her some time.

if you do not feel like getting another budgie that is alright, do not feel pressured to get another one if you do not feel right about it. maybe later on you could think about adding another budgie but again that is all up to you. do what you feel right and not what others tell you.

I am so sorry for your loss :(

I agree with Birdluv, she is grieving - Poor girl just lost her best friend :o

I'd give her some treat food, like millet sprays, to encourage her to eat a little. Don't fret, she wont starve herself, she may even be sneaking a little food when you are not looking.

If she starts to show any sickness symptoms that Bluey had, then get her to a vet ASAP.

Keep us posted.

She is eating well now, and she is even more enthusiastic about coming outside the cage for a fly around the room (when she really used to just hang back in the cage while Bluey was around the room). Lets just hope she continues on this road.

birds recover pretty quickly just keep an eye out for any signs of illness to ensure she didn't get what Bluey had. When Pretty died I kept an eye on Merlin and even took him in for an avian vet check-up to put my mind at ease. You don't have to get another bird and honestly I wouldn't for at least 2 months to ensure Tweety herself is not sick and if you do decide on another bird don't forget you will have to quarantine the new bird from Tweety for at least 30 days. Sorry for your loss

 Good to hear, maybe buy her some new toys and rearrange the cage.
