hi all what does it mean if the breast bone is sharp???? Not like a normal one ...I ask this because Bubbles is pointy ,,,, I know that this isn't a good sign !!!!!I have no idea what has happened to me, I used to be a great breeder now all of a sudden everything seems to be going wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!Bubbles is eating seed, but I think that he mustbe under weight, How can i help her

Sharp breat bone is a loss of weight. The bird may not be eating or it is eating but it's not being absorbed which is an illness.

That is where weighing you birds can make a difference, if the bone is sharp as you run your finger down its chest, it's probably being losing weight for some time.

It means the bird is losing weight...usually noticed when they have poopy bottom. Any other signs ?

No other signs, no pooey vent. Dad stopped feeding her 2 days ago I tried Hand rasing feed and bubbles refuses Egg and Bickky and Veggies .... She is hoeing into the seeds and is drinking ...

All poos look normal too No resp destress and she can fly

Got a warm lamp you can put next to the cage she is in ? Have you learnt to crop feed yet ?

Haven't had nah on experence, studied the video and hae wrtten instructions ...... I am watching her closely to see what she is like i think that she has an appeitie now, loves her seeds, I am going to give millet and try again on the eggand bic stuff to see how she goes , also wil take note of poo to see if she is pooing seeds, but so far all normal poo

No healthy budgie regardless of age should have a sharp breastbone. If it also has a poopy bottom it is sick. If it just has the sharp breastbone it is underweight and something is causing a problem for the weightloss . Needs looking at by a bird vet.

You should feel a padding of meat over his breastbone and no sharp edges. You should also check his bottom.

Thanks Kaz - I will have a feel. His bottom is clean, I always check it when he is hanging off his toys. He is definetely eating too. I am so worried now

Just check him over. has he been wormed ? If not he needs it. Also take a good look at the food he is or isnt eating and maybe time for a rethink of his diet.

He has trill budgie mix and eucalyptus leaves during the day and at night I give him some veggies eg carrott, bok choy, peas and corn or some birdy bread or rice and veggie mix (I haven't used egg food in a while because he never used to eat it, maybe worth trying again?)

 

He is starting to eat more of the veg, not as much as I would like though, so I have been using (three days a week) in his water the Vetafarm liquid vitamins.

 

I check his bowl night when I get home to make sure that there are empty husks, and there always are.

 

Is there anything that I should be giving/doing?

 

I will let you know how I get on tonight with his check up.

Bubbles is constanly eating .... and I mean consantly... she is siting, bathing sleeping in her seeds ......

Well, finally home and did a check of his breast bone (Coco was not a happy chappy) and it is still as sharp as I remember . I have found a fodder store that sells hulled oats so I will pick some up tomorrow and add to his seed mix, along with a set of kitchen scales to weigh him. For a about 4 month old budgie, how much should he weigh? He is extremely active, always jumping around and playing with toys too.
