Posted April 7, 200817 yr In some thread or article I have read that we can give wheat to Budgies and also I think some Budgie seedmix contains this. So does any of the members are giving raw whole wheat (husk removed) to Budgies, if so could you please share it here. Thanks
April 7, 200817 yr wheat isn't an issue, and the birds can hull them if you leave them on... unhulled is okay too...
April 10, 200817 yr Author Thanks Neat, Ravengypsy and Kaz. Neat and Ravengypsy, how do you people serve wheats to your Budgies....doesn't it hard to Budgies beak to crack them. I serve wheat softened overnight with mung beans also softened in this same way. Kaz, before initiating this thread I have tried giving my Budgies plain wheat soaked in plain water overnight, but still I see that wheats are not that softened enough. Also none of the Budgies touched them. Also what is the best time (morning or evening) to serve our Budgies with this softened food and can we leave this softened food in the cage overnight or needs to removed after say 4 hours like soft food.

When I serve the wheat and mung beans the budgies surprisingly seem to go for the wheat first before the mung beans. I serve in the evening so it doesnt go sour through the heat of the day. In the evening they eat what they want of it, eat a little more at dawn and I remove what left in the early morning. Maybe try cooking it for awhile to soften it more ?

Last to last week I tried with mung beans and looks like they liked it very much.
