Posted March 31, 200817 yr I have tried to breed with this gorgeous cock bird with two different hens and all the eggs were clear, so I'm presurming he has a problem? I have just spoken to another breeder on the phone and he suggested I pluck the vents of hen and cock bird Does this make a difference if I do so? I'm a bit hesitant about it as I've never done it before. Edited March 31, 200817 yr by jenene283
March 31, 200817 yr I have heard of this it lets them get "CLOSER"so i imagine I personally have never done it .... I too had an issue with my cock (Laughing out loud) .... Prince his 2 times produced clear eggs hoever his 3rd was DIS soooo It was a good sign for me .... this is first time breeding???? as most first timers aren't fertile .... I am sure that you will get better advice from other members soon I hope that this issue get fixed soon for you .... All the best Edited March 31, 200817 yr by Neat
March 31, 200817 yr Yes it makes a HUGE difference... for the big fluffy birds for the sperm to get in it needs a clear path or can be caught up in the feathers around the vent... it's only minor pain for them and is over in a few minutes An alternative is to trim feathers around the vent - Before - after Without this i would never have my gorgeous fallow bub Frodo Edited March 31, 200817 yr by *libby*

March 31, 200817 yr Trimming is recommended over plucking...less traumatic to the bird Mostly used where the bird is a fluffier buffier bird.

Why are they Adults For sale .... Could t be that they are infertile.... Afterall why would one get rid of a perfectly good bird ..... Food for thought ...... Hi Jenene and Neat, It is usual practice for an exhibition breeder to use a cock for 1 - 2 years before they get 'culled' (sold). I also prefer trimming to plucking. Feathers.
March 31, 200817 yr I have just had the experience this past weekend of trimming the vent feathers of all my birds which had clear eggs on the first round. They all are considered to have "buff" feather types and I realized just how much when I tried to trim them.. wow.. no wonder they were all clear eggs... ain't nothing getting through those feathers! So off to trimming I went with help from my hubby to hold them for me. And with luck the 2nd round will be more successful.

Not all of them just some :budgiedance: Yeah mine too But the 2 that are breeding at present have their Vents FLASHING (Laughing out loud) .... I read up on the english breeds and this is where they trim the vents ... I might do this with Prince as he is the "English ./ Show"type and could be the cause of those Clear eggs I had
