Hatching?

Thanks lonebudgie

I will have to give that a go!

If saving eggs they should be turned every day, or if you place them with the small end down it doesn’t have to be done so often, if not the germ in the egg may stick to the side & die. I don’t think it’s a necessary thing with Budgies, as at present they seem to be quite capable in raising all their babies even with a great size difference in them.

This has been done with Canaries for centuries & now if all the eggs are not kept till the batch is complete, if they are now left in the normal way, they mostly seem only able to rear one or two young, the first two hatched, in most cases. I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t have been the case in their normal habitat.

I don't handle or manipulate the eggs at all.

I used to before but this time around I leave things alone.I don't mark them in any way.

I record when each egg is laid so I know when they are due to hatch.

I don't see the point in all the detailed numbering and tracking.

This is time that could be better used.

No one knows if the Grand Champion at any given show was the third bird out of a clutch of 6.

Weather it was fostered out etc, etc, etc.

When a budgie is ringed it has a pedigree card drawn up and filed. That's it!

It's like I think what the old dude was trying to explain to Daz.

Do you want to breed budgerigars or do you want to hatch chicks?

Do you want to breed budgerigars or be a book keeper!

You can get bogged down with all the recording, this, that and the other.

Which I fell into before. Even with the PC data base programs out there it can get over the top.

And really all the record keeping in the world isn't going to breed budgies!

Finger Training!

They look wonderful  you'd have to be pleased with those

I'm happy with the spangle wing markings. The cock bird has very dark normal wing markings which I hoped would transfer into the spangles.
