Posted March 30, 200817 yr I've posted this fella here before, but I've never had a good link at his ring. It's pink/purple and says... BGV TAS 05 (that bit is a diamond and 5 running side ways) and then 020. This is Tweet Tweet here: Sorry about quality... just wanted to show size difference I didn't buy this boy. He flew into out back yard and could not find his family. Is he a nomal pet budgie or a show type. He is not huge compared to my others, but his head is bigger and the feathers on it are fluffier... Any thoughts??? Edited March 30, 200817 yr by maesie
March 30, 200817 yr I can’t tell you what the . BGV is as that’s probably either the bird club initials or the breeders… TAS maybe this means it’s from Tasmania which maybe you guessed already… the diamond & five 05 is the year 2005, as probably you can also guess yourself. He looks a bit better bred than most pet Budgies, but usually if their rung, it means a breeder has bred them, that at least buys rings to keep track of them. I hope that was some help Maesie?

Thakns Norm... I kind of guess the Tas and 05 thing... It's exciting to think he came from there (obviously not flown though). I might do some reasearch into him. Cheers xxx
March 30, 200817 yr bgv is the club Could it be BCV which is the Budgerigar Council of Victoria. tas is the breeder. Could be from partnership of Plunkett & Tasi who are from Victoria. National Winning Budgerigars. I use there Water Management system 05 is the year 020 is the ring number.
March 30, 200817 yr Author So he's not from Tasmania... (Laughing out loud)... Thanks for that info Daz. I'll look into in. I couldn't find any info on a Tasi club so you're prob right. If this is the case... I might have myself a very good bird?
March 30, 200817 yr Hi Maesie, I can't find any BGV club, so I'd be with Daz, have another look, could it be BCV? If so, you could contact them to find out who the breeder was if you wish. He is a decent looking cock and may well have been bred in the last 2 years and is a now 'cull' bird. Feathers.
March 30, 200817 yr Author Thanks Feathers and DAZ. He was not happy being held and was wiggling his leg a lot so it may well be that. I tried breeding him in Nov and he and his 'wife' had 6 eggs but she left them and they didn't survive. It was her first time and she could see other breeding pair and was quite distracted. I think I also checked on her and the eggs too much as I was having ant problems so extra cleaning was needed. (naughtly me!!! ) I'm thinking of setting up the breeding cage in my newly expanded bird room and giving them another go when I get back from Bali. Even if he was one of their culled budgies, I'm sure he'd produce some nice looking chicks. It would be also nice to have some more green in my aviary as apart from him I only have grey's and blues... Thanks all for your help. I'll try and contact him and see if I can find out where he's from and any history on him. Cheers all xxx

Most breeders, unless the bird it out of the ordinary, would only use them for a couple of seasons before selling them. There is only a certain amount of birds that can be kept due to the space they have. Most exhibition breeers have an annual cull. Feathers.
March 30, 200817 yr Author I'm wondering if he escaped from the breeder and they didn't try and find him. Or he got sold to someone and he escaped from them. I just know when I found him I didn't get any responses other than from a lady who said she'd have him if no one else claimed him. I'm glad I decided to keep him!
