Well, we finally got the test results for Declan. He has neither the Polyoma virus or Beak and feather, both tests were negative. So it looks like another budgie is the answer, as the feather picking is boredom. What do you recommend i get Dec is 1.5 years old male, what other budgie would you get, an adult or a baby? Male is better though isn't it, they will be less likely to fight. Any advice would be great!!

He wants a girlfriend, same age.

They tend not to breed unless there is a nest box available. (However, there have been cases where eggs have been laid on the cage floor and chicks raised.) But if you don't want that just take the eggs out.

I fly my budgies together male and female in the main flight and there have been maybe 3 eggs laid in 3 years in the flight.

Hens may lay eggs regardless but not usually unless there is a nest box. He really would prefer a girlfriend (but maybe a boyfriend would do). He is tearing his feathers out over it. But quarantine first.

I'm gonna add not only getting him a friend, but also try mixing the cage up a bit too adding new toys and natural perches, this should along with a new friend help

Good News, I haven't seen him chew a feather for awhile. He has a new friend and they get along tremendously - MOST of the time. What's weird is Declan no longer chirps - only the new budgie does, endlessly. Any ideas why?

How long has the new bird been with Declan??? He might just be getting used to his new housemate

A week, okay, thats alright then, we just miss Declan's distinctive chirp. Must say tho, Merlin chirps enough for both of them, he even does little chirps during the night

We could look on the bright side , a self wing clipping budgie !! , You could be onto something.
