Hi All just an update on these cabinets.

As many of you know, I love recordes. I keep them every day.

Here is some facts.

  1. I haven't increased the number of cabinets from the previous season
  2. I started later in the season. May instead of March.
  3. I took the birds off the old feeding on to a simpler feeding.

Results for this season.

I had an increase in chicks from 128 to 146 14% increase over all in the season.

But an increase of 34% in breeding from the months of May to February.

Previous season I bred 108 duing those months. This season I bred 145.

So I think the factors of better feed and maintenance and the new cages with wire dividers helped with the breeding program.

Next year I am starting to breed at the end of June through to December. I'll see how that goes.

Heath here is my old feeding method: (from memory- it's here in the forum somewhere)

Seed to the Flight Birds - Soak 1 kg of seed to 1 table spoon of Cod Liver Oil. (Vitamin A & D3)

Seed to the Breeding cabinets - 20ml per 1kg of seed.

Soft Food. Grated Carrots, Soaked Hulled oats and Soaked Wheat, Budgie Starter and Budgie Crumble.

Water was an old water management by Plunket & Tass.

It was a 4 week rotationary system. Changed Daily

1st week - 4 days calcivet 3 days plain water.

2nd week. - 4 days probotics 3 days plain water.

3rd week - 4 days soluvet 3 days plain water.

4th week - 4 days cocivet 3 days plain water.

The Plain water had Avicleans to stop bacteria.

Worming 4 times a year.

Fungalin once a year.

Vegetables every Saturday and Sunday.

New routine:

Seed to the Flight Birds - plain

Seed to the Breeding cabinets - Moulting Aide 20ml per 1kg of seed.

Soft Food, Finely chopped carrots, beetroot, spinach and parsley with added Probotics, Pentivite and Calcivet.

Water has 4 days iodine 3 days either plain water or moulting aide if needed. Changed daily.

Worming once a year before the Breeding Season with Wormout Gell. I also at times through the year use a mixture of Aloe Vera which acts as a natural wormer.

Currently I am trying Tectracycline for 10 days as a more moderate approach than Doxy.

The Birds still get Vegitables on a Saturday and Sunday.

I add now to the flights and breeding cabinets, Vetafarm True Grit, Charcoal and Budgie and Finch Crumble.

When you say the seed is plain what is your combination? do you make it up or buy a premixed seed combination?

Daz, are you giving your birds Golden Cob Supreme Budgie Mix or plain Breeders Budgie Mix.

I only ask 'cause the former has iodine and cod liver oil already added.

Before making the switch I was adding oil and giving the birds Soluvet as a booster - I no longer have to do this. :sadsorry:

Daz, I note in the 'new' feeding regime there is no reference to Calcivet. Do you add it to the soft food?Daz, I note in the 'new' feeding regime there is no reference to Calcivet. Do you add it to the soft food?

Yes 10ml to the soft food every morning.

Well as of today I'm going to add the Calcivet to the soft food too. I've become increasingly dissatisfied with adding it to the water, I think it makes it too sweet and the risk of bacteria forming is increased.

I put the Probotics, Pentivite and Calcivet in the soft food. I put Iodine & Molting Aide in the water.

Do you put probiotics in the soft food every day?

What about the protein powder or whey powder, does that go in the soft food too?

The Finch Soft Food mix is 30% protein. Higher than Budgie Starter.

Hi Daz,

What are the chances of getting you to post the plans for your breeding boxes and cages on the forum?

I tried talking to my old man about how you built your he is the sort that needs plans to work from.

Cheers,

Glen
