Posted March 27, 200817 yr Hi, I need some help. I have decided (after having to turn down a bird that needed a new home and I know will be put down) that I want to put in an aviary. I have a corner of my garden which it would work well in, theory is that I want to be able to put a concrete (or something else down suggestions welcome) that will be easy to clean and then put the avairy on top. I did a rough measurements and I have about 270cm width from the fence to the wall of the garage and about 158cm depth (however depth is not so much an issue just have to move some bushes) This area is great as it will have the added protection of the fence on two sides and the garage on the other. I found this website and like some of these -> http://www.precisionsheds.com.au/images/aviaries/index.htm However I live in melbourne so need a local supplier. Any suggestions would be great, I thought about building it myself for oh about three seconds then decided to spend the money instead! The reason behind it is there are so many birds like my Mozzie that have been given up and can not be rehoused as breeders don't want them and pet owners don't want them. They would however work well in an aviary but the rescue groups around me tell me there is a lack of people willing to take on healthy birds that are not suitable for pets (due to taming issues) or breeding due to age. I have the room, the money and the the time so why not build an aviary and be able to help some of these birds so that they can live out their life happy healthy and without issues.
March 27, 200817 yr Hi there, sorry I can't help, being in Perth, but maybe if you asked around, or had a look at specialist bird stores. Feathers,.
March 27, 200817 yr I just try yellow.com.au and go thru there... I was looking for an aviary but I've decided it would just be easier converting my shed into one... The other option is design one yourself and get someone to build it... there is a company called Design a shed that would do it... they are in Keysborough I think... I'm not sure where you are in Melbourne but if you go to your local Bunnings or Shed place they usually sell aviaries and if you really want one from Precisionsheds they should be able to get it in for you...
March 27, 200817 yr The best way to go is to buy a good secondhand aviary off either ebay or through your local trading newspaper......that way you get more for your money. Use cement paving slabs for the floor. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/parrot-bird-aviary_...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited March 27, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 28, 200817 yr Hi and yah!!! Great news. I have just concreted my aviary (used to be dirt, then pavers) and it's 1,000,000 times better. Eaiser to clean, keeps nasties out and just looks good too. I got my aviary from Mitre 10 (I'm sure they're be one near you). They just ordered it for me (I'm not sure through who), but it was delivered and if I wanted to pay more, I THINK you can get it put up also, although I did my own. Good luck and please let us follow your journey!!!
March 28, 200817 yr Angelic V Like Kaz said check out www.Ebay.com.au or www.tradingpost.com.au there is also www.oztion.com.au Look in your local papers too I have found a few from mine ... There are a few more places too that I quickly found when i searched on line .. .Western Aviaries http://www.petlink.com.au/Classifieds/Bird...s_and_Supplies/ http://www.aussieweb.com.au/directory/dire...3&lid=50028 http://melbourne.zpages.com.au/stores-and-supplies/ Hope this helps and you get your aviary ... If you can not start with a cement floor try pavers a bit tricky with the gaps though as it tends to get cloged My first avairy I used a hard wood floor eay to hose and scrap any messes up .... Good luck with it all
March 28, 200817 yr I am looking at formply for the floor for my aviary. Going to set it on a frame of treated pine.
April 6, 200817 yr Author Thanks for that, My Dad and I think that a slab fllor is going to be the best and we are looking at doing a covered drain to make it easier to clean. I found a group down here that do avaries and my mother is worried about how it will "look" I really don't care want what is best for the birds to tell you the truth! So this is what i have found wanted your opinions. Hexagonal Aviary Large: 1800W x 2400H (6' x 8') (Mum's fave I think it lacks protection to the elements Aviary with Bird Lock For the serious breeder. Lets you enter into a small compartment before entering into the main aviary. Stops you losing birds. Dimensions: 2770W x 1500D x 1800H (9' x 5' x 6') All Purpose Aviaries Comes galvanised or powder coated. Ideal aviary for the beginner. Dimensions: 1760W x 900D x 1800H (6' x 3' x 6') A beautiful garden deserves a beautiful aviary. The Royal Range of aviaries make D&L Classic stand out from all other aviary manufacturers, with its unique patented design. The attractive dome affect gives your birds the best al all times. Rain, breeze, sun and most importantly, shelter in the cooler periods. Royal Aviary Large: 2750W x 900D x 2500H (9' x 3' x 8'2") I like the last one cause I think that if I get any other birds as well as the Budgies then it will suit them all, also gives max protection however the lock out one does have that feature, then again someone told me just put a tarp inside over the door to stop them from flying out as I go in and out which I thought was a good idea.
