Wing clipped

I was going to suggest clipping the other side also, to reduce the risk of injury. He is very off-balance with only one side trimmed. I would not pull them out, there is a risk of damaging the feather follicle when you forcibly remove the feather, instead of allowing it to drop naturally.

I was also given a baby budgie in January with both wings clipped. He/she can now fly a couple of feet in the air as the wings grow back slowly.

My budgie sneezes a lot, has it got a cold or is it something else?? :P

:ygbudgie: Hi Carol, best now you establish yourself with an avian vet to determine the cause of the sneezing. Nails may need clipped as well and you can make a decision as to whether to keep your budgie's wings clipped or not. :P

Sneezing and colds are not common budgie "things" ...best to get it looked at

sneezing doesn't sound good. like the others suggested... maybe a vet visit would be wise.

Haven't had much luck with my budgies. My first one had a tumor at the top of his leg and had to be put down and my next budgie had psittacosis and also had to be put down. They were both budgies bought from pet shops ( will never ever get a budgie from a pet shop again!)

Billy, my new budgie is hand reared and I am going to let his wings grow so he can fly. I'll take him to a Vet for a check up re the sneezing as you suggested. He seems to do it more when I have him out of the cage and haven't really noticed him sneezing much when in his cage.

Make sure you take him to an avian vet not a regular dog and cat vet as they truly are not as knowledagable.

The sneezing may be a nervous thing too? Is it fits? Do you hear any wheezing when he flys around and breathes? Any nasal discharge?

Re the sneezing...........are you using any air fresheners, or incense, scented candles and air fragrances at all ? Any teflon pans being used in the house ?

Could be an allergy or irritation, or it could be an infection. Their respiratory systems are so delicate - I agree with the others, an avian vet is best.

Differential diagnoses from my textbook: Bacterial, fungal, viral or chlamydial infection; foreign body; toxic insult (smoke); allergy; malnutrition
