Posted March 26, 200817 yr Hello I am in the process of taming a now about 14 week old male budige (pet store bought). I have been using the taming budgie FAQ's page. At the moment he will eat millet spray from my fingers, and has been doing this for quite a while. But I am finding it difficult to move to the stage where he will sit on my finger. He doesn’t really want anything to do with my hand if I don’t have any millet, and even when I do, he still runs away and gets a bit freaked out if I move my finger closer to him. It could well be that I need to be more patient ?? But does anybody have any taming tips that they can share? Thanks, Tam
March 26, 200817 yr wow, Bing is quite comfortable with me now, he goes on my finger, comes out of his cage sits on my shoulder and sits on my chest when i lie down on my bed, i think the best thing to do is keep feeding him/her millet for about 1-2minutes constantly and slowly bring your finger up behind the millet, let him see its there but not so he can see it fully, then swipe it under his feet and continue to feed him millet  thats what worked for me the first time i got Bing to step up, good luck
March 26, 200817 yr make it no option that he has to sit on your finger to eat the millet now since for a month you have been feeding it to him now is the time to challange him. Put your finger down wher you want him to step up and then put the millet on the opposite side of your finger when he trys to nibble the millet pull it back slightly and push your finger us on his chest the minute he puts even just a foot up and it stays there reward him and then repeat the process. All birds are different, some trust faster then others, we don't know what happened at the pet store where he was and if he was grabbed at and hurt, anything could have happened. We can't worry about what happened though, we have to think about what is happening now and to continue to be patient and encourage you will have a break through I promise.
March 26, 200817 yr Sounds like some good advice. I am at the stage where my budgie is taking millet from me too but it has only been a few days so i'm sure you will get there first! So far whenever I move the millet so Trilby would have to sit on my finger to get it she sits still, sidles over a bit, freaks herself with her boldness flies round the cages, sits back on her perch and repeats! Good luck with your taming.
