Posted March 23, 200817 yr Hi all: Georgie (yellow) and Kazoo (mauve) are my two dear budgies. Well, Kazoo is becoming dear, she is new after the passing of my beloved Joey of 15 years recently, but that is another story. I am not a breeder, and I was wondering if some of the experts here might be able to tell me what types they are, since I am aware there are many and I have read some debate here about which is which. Also, a note about sex: I think Kazoo is female. She is a baby from a, gulp, pet store. But anyone with a definitive answer as to her henship would be welcome, as well. Thanks in advance, and thanks to everyone who has increased my understanding. I read for a while before joining the forum.
March 23, 200817 yr Well firstly Erin.... WELCOME!!! I am so glad you made your fist post, ey. What a lovely pair of budgies you have... You asked for experts to give you an answer... so I won't respond... have you ever hear of the terms 'pied' and 'normal' though? It would help as far as gender recognition is concerned with a closer shot of Kazoo's cere/head. I look forward to what the experts have to say.
March 23, 200817 yr l'm sorry for your loss of Joey Welcome to the forums. l'm not sure of what type they are, a closer picture of each would help with the gender and also identifying what they are. l'll just take a wild guess here that Georgia is a recessive pied but if he has an iris ring then he is a dominant pied and Kazoo is a normal cobalt. l'm not 100% sure about it.
March 24, 200817 yr Phew I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought pied and normal... See Erin... in less than a month you can actually look at a budgie and tell the difference... Now that is what makes this forum fantastic.... *waits for an expect to come and tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about* until then though I agree with birdluv...
March 24, 200817 yr Author Thanks to each of you for responding. See above post, I was looking for info on what kind of budgies I had, and also the sex of Kazoo (the blue one). I know Georgie is a boy - actually that is a kind of funny story, I thought he was a girl and named her Georgia until he mounted my hand a few years ago and clamped onto my fingernail and outed himself as a male (his cere is, I guess, mauve, although I had thought it was pink). Kazoo is about 4 months old and her cere definitely looks pink to me.Thanks in advance....Jimmy and birdluv have identified them as possibly a recessive pied and normal cobalt? Hmmm, interesting! (To answer your question birdluv, I don't see any rings around the irises of either of them.) Do they still look to be these strains closer up? I look forward to honing my ID skills, in the meantime, it's pretty amazing to be able to upload photos of my budgies from Northern Ontario, Canada, and have them seen in Australia! Cheers and thanks again
