Posted March 21, 200817 yr Hi all Im new here and fairly new at raising budgies. I just bought a new budgie a English blue female and when i was in the avriary I noticed she had a sore bum...and clups of dried dung... so i caught her and took off the clumps and was going to put some vasoline there but didnt have any so i used some poroxide... when I bought here a few days ago from the pet shop she was by herself and I now have here in a large avriary with 7 others. i figure she may be nervous. i have a picture too Do i need to be concerned? She's eating and drinking. How can i show a picture of her on here i tried add image but doesnt let me upload my picture wants a http. thanks cheers Moni Edited March 21, 200817 yr by maesie spelling
March 21, 200817 yr Hello and welcome. Please quarantine her right away. The messy poops could be just a sign of stress... but she could be carrying any kind of disease that could affect the rest of your flock. She needs to be quarantined 5 meters away (min) from your aviary for at least 30 days. One member has just had a bird that was seemingly healthy, suddenly die 3 weeks into quarantine from an unknown illness... Oh and it would be great to see your pictures Edited March 21, 200817 yr by **Liv**
March 21, 200817 yr I agree with Liv. You should quanrantine your new budgies for at least 30 days. Sometimes new birds get stressed, so they get a dirty butt. I am not sure peroxide is needed though. Surely you could just use a damp cloth with water on it.
March 21, 200817 yr Author have a good picture but not sure how to upload it from my picture file... thanks all i will put her by herself
March 21, 200817 yr hey there, welcome to the forums. Well the others have told you to quarantine her and I couldn't agree more. better to be safe then to end up with 8 birds with dirty bums. It will give you plenty of time to find out if it is a sickness or just nerves...
March 21, 200817 yr Author Thanks i will have a picture asap here and u can see and let me know what you think :feedbirds: here is janie my new budgie Edited March 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 21, 200817 yr She looks like she is going through a moult and unwell. Birds should not be moved or sold when moulting as its a very hard time for them healthwise. I suggest you bring her inside in a cage with a warm lamp nearby...25 to 40 watts. Some sulpha D, sulpha Q or sulpha 3 in her water....or some PURE raspberry cordial in her water. Check her legring and tell us her codes so we can work out her age. INFO on quarantine http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en Edited March 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 21, 200817 yr what is the story with the pure raspberry cordial? Kills some forms of tummy bugs Dave
March 21, 200817 yr I agree with all the advice Kaz has given... My first thought when i saw her was "she is an old bird", I will be interested in knowing what her age is too. Hope she is okay
