Is My Bird Old/sick?

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi guys I'm after some info on my Budgie..

My budgie is all fluffed up and with his head tucked over he back sleeping all the time, but if we're eating he's up and running to see if any is for him?

He eats a lot of our food :D and has always slept on the bottom of the cage during day time but sleeps on a perch when covered up for the night.

Normally doesn't talk as his head is to full :(Laughing out loud): of other bird noises(does a very good Murry Magpie and the wing sound of the Top Knot pigeon taking off) but he's not do any of that the moment!

He' 8 years old and we've had him from 2-3mths old..

Thanks for any help...

if your budgie was really old i would say its normal old age.... my Whitie sat like that ALL day and night napping, but she was 14 years old...

To me it sounds like your little bird could be unwell....

how are it's poops? is the breast bone sharp?

do you have any pictures?

Hello Liv pictures and video from mobile phone I was just doing them and poops just was looking and there flat and run down from his vent, stick to him and are not his normal black and white donuts..

Yep, agree with Liv's questions etc... more info is needed for us to be able to help you. Some clear pictures would be awsome. If you think he is unwell, put him in a quite dark room and put a lamp over it to keep it warm. Watch him and check his bottom, poo and feel him to see if he has some meat on his bones.

Yes, your little bird is sick :P I'm so sorry.

I think probably should try and get into the vet tomorrow.

For now your little bird needs warmth - use a light with a 25-40 watt globe to provide heat.

I am not very experienced with sick birds, hopefully the others will be able to help you out soon :D

Thanking you and I'm in the process of taking the pics and vid from the phone and putting them on photobucket so give me a couple of mins :D

I would suggest the vet visit too based on the change of its poops and the fluffed up appearance.

Thanks to everybody who's answered my post and Liv would you be able to recommend a Avian Vet close by as I'm just down the rd from you at the nth...Hi again I had some links on here so people could look at my budgie but they seem to be gone??? :excl:

I cant recommend an avian vet as i have not used one before. The last vet trip i had was about 4 years ago when my 10year old hen got egg bound with prolapse. I rushed her to the closest vet to me (which was a regular vet) and they put her to sleep for me :D

I have just done a yellow pages search on avian vet. Here are the results

Thanks for the reply Liv No doesn't come out of his cage any more as he flys flat out in to walls, windows, furniture and when he almost knocked out then he waddles about the floor. You can leave the door open and he won't come out...

Until recently he would hang on the perch a flap like mad, even makes he perch move up and down:)

After reading everything, I would suggest taking your bird to an Avian Vet (there is a finder in our FAQ's) we can go back and forth and think what she may have but none of us are registered avian vets or even vets and if we were still we could not diagnosis your bird properly as we don't have the tools to physical feel, weigh, take any poos slides, talk to you in personal etc... So time spent could be time wasted and your bird could be gone. I have experience a healthy bird in the morning and gone by evening with these types of symptoms. I wish you the best and keep us updatd....now I will stop lecturing :D.

He looks unwell in the video you provided. How is your bird this morning? I hope you can get into an avian vet today. What ever he has will not wait until Tuesday (when the vets open again after the Easter long weekend)

Yes, please update us as Liv said, I do hope he is okay.

Great - good luck finding a avian vet.... if you cant find one.... perhaps try ringing around regular vets and ask if they have any experience with budgies.... it would be better if he is seen by someone today
