Posted March 14, 200817 yr Hi again, I am hoping I have a clear enough photo now of Benny for someone to confirm if he is a he and not a she. Hopefully it is scaled down enough but still clear enough. Also any idea of age would be great. I know Charlie is older but again don't know how much older. Opinions would be appreciated. Photo again of Charlie http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/b...ies/Charlie.jpg Thanks heaps Deb Edited March 14, 200817 yr by Elly 2nd pic slightly oversized, no more then 450x450
March 14, 200817 yr Hello fellow Brisbane-ite :hap: I have no idea but will be very interested in the answers you get. Our Jack's cere looks just like the one you have in your first photo. Are you enjoying your budgies ? Aren't they just the most beautiful little birds :hap: Michelle
March 14, 200817 yr Hard to say with Benny but its looking more like a boy now :hap: One thing to mention is they have the beginnings of scaly face happening so need treatment for that....spot on ivermectin or rub oil onto the cere ( make sure it doesnt get into the nostrils ). Rub oil onto their feet and legs just in case also. I think its already been worked out that Charlie is an 2004 bird if his legring is blue like someone said it was ?
March 14, 200817 yr MALE .... AND NICE !!!! Benny looks younger as no iris ring yet I am guessing 10 - 13 months .... In saying that I am probaly completly wrong However I have the sexing down pat now HEHEHEH

Love my boys - only had them 6 days (last Sunday) and am still learning so much about them. Both budgies actually have green tags (2007 sometime). Just wondered if any way of knowing if he may be nearer end of 2007 (4-5mths old) or early 2007 (13 -14 mths old)Will take up your advice on "scaly face". What it is/what causes it??? is there a specific type of oil that is best to use? Thanks Edited March 14, 200817 yr by Burdies

Oil...some use castor oil, others non scented baby oil. I use spot on ivermectin as its easier to use for aviary birds. :budgiedance: Edited March 14, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 14, 200817 yr your boys are handsome. if you use the oil just remember, try not to put any oil on their feathers and only use a very small amount. check their legs too, to make sure there are no mites on them either.
March 15, 200817 yr and becareful you don't put too much on so they don't aspirate it through the nostrils...cute birds
March 15, 200817 yr I think I mentioned this is a previous post... like Kaz said... Charlie would be early 2007, and Benny would be late 2007... With the aplication of oil... you could used a cotton bud. It would make it easy to apply. Both very cute boy, and excellent photos of their cere's. How's Benny going? Is he getting used to you all?

Thanks maesie & all for clarifying. Sorry to have repeated question on age, but there were a few conflicting opinions previously. (starting with the pet shop saying they should be between 6 to 14 WEEKS) Doesn't really bother me so much as they are both really settled in, even Benny - although he is much more settled when with Charlie. Deb Petshops rarely ever get their information right and more often than not lie about birds ages, sex and whether of not they are handtamed, handreared.
March 15, 200817 yr No worries. It can be very confusing. They're looking really good and I'm glad they are settling in.
March 15, 200817 yr Benny looks a bit like a Bonny (out of breeding condition) to me..... I keep thinking boy, no hen....no boy... no hen Edited March 15, 200817 yr by **Liv**
March 15, 200817 yr So ... turning your budgie upside down & moving away the feathers from that "AREA" & giving a little lookiloo or feel is not the proper way to tell if you got a boy or a girl budgie ? I suppose your budgie might not like that invasion of privacy.
