Posted March 14, 200817 yr Well Merlin is going on vacation to my MIL for the week starting Sunday. We are going to have different sections of the house painted and I can't keep him here even if I could open windows it would be too dangerous. So he is going to pack his toys, food & small cage (as the big one is too much for her house) and going to stay with Grandma & Pap for the full week. Please pray for him I love them but they are not the most saavy people with pets, they love them but the care is not like "moms" - and trust me is it not a case of I can do it better. So here is Merlin...ready to go... Edited March 14, 200817 yr by Elly
March 14, 200817 yr Awww!!!! have a good holiday merlin!!!! i hope they take good care of him and he comes back in one piece to his freshly painted home!!!!
March 14, 200817 yr Bye-bye for now Merlin, have fun. Bigs hugs Elly, lets hope the time apart flies by .
March 14, 200817 yr Send me a ticket and we ( Merlin and I ) will stay at the RITZ....I will save you Merlin !!
March 14, 200817 yr Author hehe...he needs to be saved, I am worried about him totally... today he came up to my nose and started to flirt with it before it was just my fingers he is getting kind of close now longer daylight hours makes for a you know what man :
March 14, 200817 yr Suggestion...put three feeders in the cage in case the babysitters do the "husk thing"....seeing husks as real food. With three feeders he has a chance of finding some food.
March 14, 200817 yr Author (Laughing out loud) : that makes me feel so much better...considering that they bought a budgie for my husband and they found it dead in like a week (it was probably the husk thing) she said it was Tim's fault because he didn't feed the bird COME ON PEOPLE he was like 10 at the time...HELP ME.....I will review with her on this!!!!
March 14, 200817 yr When I read your post heading I got really worried... Merlin Says Good-bye :0( ... I thought something had happened . Phew! I hope his holiday goes okay, and that you don't worry TOO much! Good Luck.
March 14, 200817 yr i hope Merlin is looked after well while he is on holidays and i hope you do not spend too much time worrying.are they close enough to pop in and check on him while he is there because that is what i would be doing.
March 14, 200817 yr Awww (((HUGS))) I'm Sure he will be fine. I like Kaz's idea of extra seed dishes and i like Deb said, will you be able to drop by and check up on him? All the best with his holiday and your painting
March 14, 200817 yr Bye Bye Merlin ... give Gran & Gramps what fer .!!! Demand their cookies & extra treats & swear at them if they ignore you. When the get close to the cage to check on you ... cower in the corner & shiver uncontrollably until they freak out & call your Mommy & get her to come check on her baby. When Mommy gets there give her a tongue lashing like never before. Make her check you over from top to bottom & clean up your cage & make everything the way YOU EXPECT IT ... cause only your mommy can. Then mommy can go home & have a lovely double gin & tonic & sniff the lovely paint fumes & curse you for giving her such a scare. GOD ... I LOVE WHEN A LITTLE ANIMAL HAS SUCH POWER over its humans !!!! heh heh ! Merlin wants MOMMY .... RIGHT NOW ! I SAID NOW ! ELLY's FUTURE for the NEXT WEEK .... >
March 14, 200817 yr I'm sure Merlin will be fine on his little holiday, because we know you will tell his baby sitters exactly what he needs! But i know i would be worried too. *hugs* Hopefully those paint fumes vanish quickly so he can come back home.
March 14, 200817 yr Goodness Elly, my heart skipped a beat when I read the topic line too. I was nearly too scared to look. I can totally understand your worry. When I went away for 16 days at the beginning of the year I wrote instructions for things to do and check eveyday. I also added an extra feeder and water bottle in the main aviary. In Kazumi's cage I put in a small self feeder, so that he would have at least 10 days supply of seed in there. *hugz* to Merlin, I am sure he will be fine, but I bet he will have a little party going on in his head when he comes back to Mommy! Feathers.
March 14, 200817 yr I have an idea....why dont you give us all your MIL phone number and we will check up on him for you !! and dont forget to set up the webcam on his cage so we can watch him too
March 14, 200817 yr and dont forget to set up the webcam on his cage so we can watch him too Like a nanny cam.
March 14, 200817 yr Hey Elly I too thought that something bad had happen to merlin ... Luckily it's just a trip to Nan & pop .... question though if you are so worried about leaving your "babies'' there...Then why didn't you try another avenue , Friend, Some vet ( not know in the State) have like a holiday period and I am sure that a Vet would make you feel more at ease .... Who is painting the house Professionals or Hubby??? ... Edited March 14, 200817 yr by Neat
March 14, 200817 yr Author They are the best bet Neat , I know he will be fin especially since her phone number is (heheh) and everyone will be checking on him. Good advice Aly, I actually am going to do that and have started typing a strict Merlin care sheet . My MIL thinks I am nuts with my animals anyways but she respects that I do love them very much because she sees how I care for them.
March 14, 200817 yr Jeez Elly, me too, I waited for the page to load thinking "nononononopleaseno!" Thank goodness. I totally understand how you feel - I had to leave Milly with a friend when I went overseas for a month. I was worried sick. I wrote up daily checklists and very clear dos and don'ts. I also checked in by email every few days, which was probably annoying, but I was too worried. They had never had birds before. Obviously they did okay, and Milly showed such spunk that they wanted a budgie of their own Hugs Elly, I'm sure he'll be fine. It's not so long and you can pop in to give him cuddles from all of us
March 14, 200817 yr Author that makes me feel more encouraged for sure...did they come back okay too like they were not wildly nuts?
March 15, 200817 yr I like the idea of Merlin cam. I like the idea of being able to chat live by text with yer MIL & say, " UH MERLIN looks like he could use a bath. Why not put his bath in his cage now ? Not too cold water ... don't wanna freeze his budgie nuggets off. '' Or, " Hey LADY ... why isn't there any cucumber or radish rosettes on his offering plate ? You are getting a little slack there."' '' Also ... his fresh baked egg cookies look ''LIMP'' didn't you follow the recipe properly ? I'm sure his Mommy gave you the BOOK of directions in order to assure Merlins care was up to par. "" YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED ... SHAME ON YOU ! BAD MIL !!!!! BAD !
March 17, 200817 yr Author Merlin is at MIL, I had her take his plastic balls away because he kept standing on them, I think that made him feel secure, other then that he is okay so far.
