Posted March 13, 200817 yr I have to move my birds outside because my dad was diagnosed with Bird Fancier's Disease...funny because he doesen't even go near the birds. So I am building an insulated shed with a ceramic heater and vent...sky light and I am thinking of making an indoor/outdoor flight for the budgies. So on one side of the shed I will have breeding pairs and the cockatiels but on the other side I will have a flight for the budgies then a window inside the flight that I can open during certin days and allow them to enjoy the outside. I am worried about mosquitoes and mites... It gets cold here in Canada even in the south but I am going to make sure they stay warm I am cutting my stock down as well. Any tips or suggestions?
March 13, 200817 yr My tip is to look at Daz's design on here. Do a search for the thread on his aviary. It was excellent, and although the climate in ontario canada is very different to the envirionment in Queensland, a lot of his ideas, problems and solution would work very well with yours. Draw up some plans before you do anything. You seem like you have a really good idea on what you want to do, now put them to paper, or do it on computer, whatever u find easier. After that, I suggest you post them on here, and then people will be able to give you more feedback. I am sorry to hear about your Dad. It is more of an incentive than anything that you do this to get the birds away from him to allow his health to improve. I can say or do little at this point but to encourage you and to say that I am looking forward to following this thread as it progresses. Edited March 13, 200817 yr by maesie spelling
March 13, 200817 yr Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hopefully moving your birds outside will help his health. Reading through the Aviaries section of this forum may give you some good tips, as well as Daz's Topic as suggested. Good luck on your idea search, and I look forward to your plans.
March 13, 200817 yr I think it is very good that your Dad hasnt just said to get rid of your birds. It seems like he is supporting you here despite his affliction.
March 13, 200817 yr Daz's first aviary that I saw had an outside as well as an inside. I thought that was awesome... then he built his new one and that is amazing.. I'd look at his, and then get some ideas and see how you can incorporate your indoor and outdoor theme... look forward to seeing your ideas and the construction stages.
