Posted March 13, 200817 yr My new aviary was built today!! After two and a half months wait, but it was worth every minute. The guy did a great job manufacturing what I wanted. It measures 6X4 and is 2.4 high. It has a L shaped corridor to fit over 30 breeding cages. Now all I have to do is fit it out! Let the fun begin !! "> "> ">"> Edited March 13, 200817 yr by throwback
March 13, 200817 yr That is one awsome avairy!!! I really love black wire... as it kind of looks invisable. It looks like you have got plenty of room and I'm sure your birds are going to love it. Great job by all.
March 13, 200817 yr Thanks everyone, The black wire is powder coated, a lot of trouble but worth it. The wire runs about half way up the side than its colour bond the rest for the birds to roost at night. Â More pics when it is full of budgies. Edited March 13, 200817 yr by throwback

March 13, 200817 yr okay, I am going to ask. I know everyone is thinking. I do not want an exact figure, but ballpark, what is a person looking at for something like that?
March 13, 200817 yr okay, I am going to ask. I know everyone is thinking. I do not want an exact figure, but ballpark, what is a person looking at for something like that? Â I didn't want to ask!... Thanks Dave, I knew someone would. Cheers... (Laughing out loud)
March 13, 200817 yr Throwback.....what size aviary mesh are you using ? The reason I ask is that I see it goes down to ground level and I have seen mice run straight through the 1 inch by 1/2 inch mesh.
March 13, 200817 yr that is awesome man... hope you didn't have to donate your eyes to scientific research to afford it :(Laughing out loud): Its really nice...
March 13, 200817 yr Hi throwback, Â it is really nice and a great design as well. I can hardly wait to see the fit out photos. Â Â Feathers.
March 13, 200817 yr okay, I am going to ask. I know everyone is thinking. I do not want an exact figure, but ballpark, what is a person looking at for something like that?It was close to 4 grand, just for the aviary plus the slab, plus fitting out with power and everything else so will be over about 8 by the time it's finished. I wanted to setup properly with plenty of room for expansion. You could buy a 6X4 and build in the cage section yourself for about half the cost but I just haven't got the time. Plus the powder coaters on the coast are twice as expensive as Sydney or Newcastle. Throwback.....what size aviary mesh are you using ? The reason I ask is that I see it goes down to ground level and I have seen mice run straight through the 1 inch by 1/2 inch mesh.Yeah KazThe wire is always an issue, and I wanted it to be as small as possible, It is a BHP wire the guy special ordered for it. It is 8 mm square and is supposed to be vermin proof.I will have to wait and see, as it is a fairly open plan I will try not to create any nooks or crannies for them to hide.that is awesome man... hope you didn't have to donate your eyes to scientific research to afford it :(Laughing out loud): Its really nice...Yeah JimmyBanksThey didn't want my eyes just my wallet! :(Laughing out loud): Edited March 13, 200817 yr by throwback
March 14, 200817 yr What an awesome aviary, it looks fantastic!!! Â Thanks Bec Sta We worked all day fitting out. Birds go in tomorrow!
March 14, 200817 yr Do you need special council permission for an aviary that size? I remember the issues Daz has gone thru.
March 14, 200817 yr Do you need special council permission for an aviary that size? I remember the issues Daz has gone thru. Â Â Daz being in Qld I say would have different local council rules. When I had the first shed erected ( the one next to the aviary ) I was told by the council I could double the size if I wanted. I did contact them to see if that was still the case, and it was. Homes around me have some massive sheds in the backyard. So they must be fairly generous around here. In that regard anyway! Edited March 14, 200817 yr by throwback

March 14, 200817 yr Love it, really well thought out. We are moving in a month and I still havent quite worked out my new setup- its given me something to think about.Cheers  the pie I have had a few aviaries in my time and have had a lot of time to think about it. A L shaped configuration is the most practical, I think. After studying a lot of my old budgie book collection and considering the past, I think colour bond is the best material. The open front and side allows for plenty of ventilation no need for fans. Even though it was very hot yesterday it was quite pleasant in the aviary. The birds went in early this morning to give them all time to settle in. I didn't realise how big it is, until I put over 40 birds in. They looked like nothing!! I still have 4 pairs in breeding so don't want to disturb them to much as they are all sitting on eggs which should hatch next week. I will post pics as soon as photobucket is finished site maintenance.
March 15, 200817 yr I am so looking forward to your photos And you have the whole weekend to enjoy them in their new space. How exciting for you !!
March 15, 200817 yr That's an awesome aviary! Can't wait to see pics of your budgies enjoying all that space.
