March 12, 200817 yr Everyone does it differently Jenene.....its kinda like everyone does their own version of apple pie. I do a few different versions depending on the birds needs and whats available too. Recipe One.............wheat, mung beans, polenta, grated carrot....soak first three ingredients and add the carrot and serve. I generally add some calcivet and a couple of tablespoons of budgie starter as well. Mashed egg optional additive Recipe two.........Dried soup mix lentils ( no soupy additives ) and also yellow split peas....soak overnight, mix through some rolled oats and grates carrot and fine sliced greens. Also with calcivet and some budgie starter. Mashed egg optional additive Recipe three..........Wheat, mung beans, polenta, and wheatgerm...soaked overnight. Add vegies, calcivet and budgie starter. Mashed egg optional additive All these things I keep on hand and make up according to what I have and what the birds needs are. Egg food that I make is another thing again.....mashed boiled eggs, finesliced greens ( bok choy, pak choy ), grated carrot, polenta and wheatgerm, budgie starter and calcivet. I also add vitamins.
March 12, 200817 yr Author Wow! Thanks Kaz! No wonder you have such exquisite birds - fed on those choices!! They all sound great! Many thanks!!
March 12, 200817 yr What is it soaked in?????????? I'm pretty sure it's just nice, clean water If possible soak it in water with the required amount of avi-clens to stop any bacteria forming. Avi-clens is a water additive that I put in with the water for my birds and dogs and cats... it stops the water getting slimy and horrible. It is a vetafarm product. Feathers.
