Cleaning Cages

Hi all, I've just bought a second hand wood aviary and was wondering what would be the best thing to clean it with? I don't want to risk my babies getting sick so how long can I leave it before using?

Any info would be appreciated.

:P

I've decided to remove any toys or perches but not sure on how to treat the wood frame to ensure no germs or what nots remain. The people I bought it from said it's been out of use for some time now.

Will post some pics of the aviary as soon as I can.

Give it a good scrub and then use F10sc. You should be able to get it at good Pet stores or Vets.

Thanks for the question... I've been considering getting/building a wooden aviary and wasn't sure how it would go... can't wait to see pictures...

Don't forget to scrub the wire too ( vinger solution ) works a treat on Metal .....

I would ditch all toys and perches and get new ones....But that is me

For cleaning I use very hot water and vinegar, scrub well, rinse and scrub with hot water, and then rinse again. I also agree with your plan to ditch all toys and perches. Better to be safe then sorry :( Can't wait for the pics! Enjoy cleaning.

Hi Dek,

Feathers.

There's a product called GFE its Grape Fruit juice Extract. A lot of people use it to clean their houses as they don't want chemicals around their infants & kids. I'm sure you could find it in any health food shop. Its concentrated & you add it to water. The birds can lick anything you wash with it & it wont hurt them a bit.

YUCK ... I HATE GRAPEFRUITS ... !

Sorry to be reviving such an old post, but for other people like me, who are always looking for natural cleaners that work well - Please note that this product is "Grapefruit SEED Extract"... Washing up your aviary with Grapefruit Juice Extract would lead to a very sticky bird room! :)

I regularly use Vanodin , it is hard to say good or bad as I had no chance to benchmark it with another product , but as far as I am concerned I had never faced with a bacterial problem .
