Posted March 11, 200817 yr Hi all, I've just bought a second hand wood aviary and was wondering what would be the best thing to clean it with? I don't want to risk my babies getting sick so how long can I leave it before using? Any info would be appreciated. I've decided to remove any toys or perches but not sure on how to treat the wood frame to ensure no germs or what nots remain. The people I bought it from said it's been out of use for some time now. Will post some pics of the aviary as soon as I can.
March 11, 200817 yr Give it a good scrub and then use F10sc. You should be able to get it at good Pet stores or Vets.
March 11, 200817 yr Thanks for the question... I've been considering getting/building a wooden aviary and wasn't sure how it would go... can't wait to see pictures...
March 11, 200817 yr Don't forget to scrub the wire too ( vinger solution ) works a treat on Metal ..... I would ditch all toys and perches and get new ones....But that is me Edited March 11, 200817 yr by Neat
March 11, 200817 yr For cleaning I use very hot water and vinegar, scrub well, rinse and scrub with hot water, and then rinse again. I also agree with your plan to ditch all toys and perches. Better to be safe then sorry Can't wait for the pics! Enjoy cleaning.

March 11, 200817 yr There's a product called GFE its Grape Fruit juice Extract. A lot of people use it to clean their houses as they don't want chemicals around their infants & kids. I'm sure you could find it in any health food shop. Its concentrated & you add it to water. The birds can lick anything you wash with it & it wont hurt them a bit. Â YUCK ... I HATE GRAPEFRUITS ... ! May 12, 200916 yr Sorry to be reviving such an old post, but for other people like me, who are always looking for natural cleaners that work well - Please note that this product is "Grapefruit SEED Extract"... Washing up your aviary with Grapefruit Juice Extract would lead to a very sticky bird room!
May 12, 200916 yr l use Avisafe from BirdCare, an non toxic and great produkt. It's the best l have tryed on my wood aviary . http://www.birdcareco.com/acatalog/The_Bir...oducts_320.html
May 28, 200915 yr I regularly use Vanodin , it is hard to say good or bad as I had no chance to benchmark it with another product , but as far as I am concerned I had never faced with a bacterial problem . Edited May 28, 200915 yr by cem
