March 24, 200817 yr Author Very nice Kaz... but can I ask what is with mum's chest? or is it just in the photo?? Everyone is looking really sweet and content... Dad, son ? and mum This particular mother is in the habit of plucking too many feathers off her chest when keeping her chicks warm in the nest. It was worse than this but they are growing back since she stopped spending the night in the nestbox.
March 24, 200817 yr Oh, poor darling... Do you think she does it to get the eggs against her skin for more warmth, or does she use the feathers she plucks to give the eggs warmth as well as from her? At least it gets better when she's not nesting.
March 24, 200817 yr Hey KAZ, I am all a wonky (read confused), and this topic is getting pretty big. Would you be able to start a "Budgie Bird Hilton" every month??? Thanks!!!
March 24, 200817 yr I thought it must of been the cock or chicks doing it... Do many hens do this or is it a relatively uncommon thing for hens to do? I've not seen any other members photos where they've done it...

I've not seen any other members photos where they've done it... Most hens pluck a vertical line of feathers off their front to keep body heat to the eggs. This hen seems to pluck them more from her crop area as she fills up with food for her chicks and the contents of her crop gets very warm for her...so she does it to relieve the heat in her crop

March 28, 200817 yr Author Two lacewings ( a boy and a girl ) fully fledged and they were flying so much in the breeder cage their Dad was getting annoyed with them so I have put them in the kindie cage already.
March 30, 200817 yr Author We have three fledged lacewing chicks all removed to the kindie cage. These chicks have left the nest flying and insisted on flying all around in the breeder cage and upsetting their dad. In the kindie cage they are having a ball and they are feeding themselves immediately so all in all...good chicks One of them another and another and here we have MOJO and todays latest hatching ( hoping it belongs to STEEL and BIH LIN ) Edited March 30, 200817 yr by KAZ
