Is it just with your show birds or with your pet types too?I have found that when I breed through the hotter months I get around 95% hens and 5% cocks. When I breed in the colder months I get mostly cocks. I dont mind having a lot of hens right now as a lot of them will be my future stock hens. Others here in Perth are not experiencing the same percentages that I am. March 19, 200817 yr Kaz you have such beautiful birds!! I love the babies when they're just getting their feathers, so cute and spikey!! I spend hours looking through the budgie photos on the forum, and keep falling in love with the babies. They have such cute comical "naive" faces!! and they do all look like they're smiling.. There's nothing cuter than a baby budgie! thank you for making me smile and ooooooo-ing and ahhhhhhhh-ing as i look at your photos! They're brilliant. Keep posting them!!! March 19, 200817 yr Author Goliaths Hen Sootica went back to the nest box with four chicks in it and was trying for round three of eggs. She was removed. The chicks were put in an icecream tub on the floor of the breeder cage for Goliath to finish raising. At bedtime tonight they all had full crops. He is a good dad and he is a grand dad to some in the aviary too.
March 21, 200817 yr Author Sootica laid two eggs on the floor of the respite cage over the past couple of days. Waste not want not...I put them under two other birds Lacewing chicks are coming out of the nestbox. Goliath and his chicks were put in the kindie cage today and all doing well. The foster chick he has been raising has lost all its flights and tail feathers...bad nutrition in its original nestbox and that why it was moved. Edited March 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
