Posted March 10, 200817 yr I was told when I bought the white pied about 6 months ago that it was a hen, as it was only young, I wasnt sure. After pairing up my breeding pairs I put her? with the yellow cock bird but their ceres look exactly the same. I know for sure the yellow is a cock so now I'm thinking the white one is too?? Can someone please tell me for sure?? http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies012.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies010.jpg Edited March 10, 200817 yr by Elly over the board regulations of 450x450, turned into links
March 10, 200817 yr May need a clearer photo of their cere's but from distance it looks like a cock bird
March 10, 200817 yr There does appear to be some blue on that cere... but I'm no expert. I'll let the others decide...
March 10, 200817 yr Author Yep two boys.... Â That's what I thought Back to the drawing board - will have to find a hen.......

March 10, 200817 yr I agree 2 boys, Kaz was talking to me about the pied ceres in males in double factors dominant pieds.
March 10, 200817 yr Author I agree 2 boys, Kaz was talking to me about the pied ceres in males in double factors dominant pieds. I love pieds but it is so hard to tell what sex they are!! I was assured it definately was a hen, I think people just tell you anything for a sale
March 10, 200817 yr It may have looked like a hen if it was young when you purchased it... My DF dom pied cock has the exact same cere... so does one of my DF spangle cocks! odd hey!
March 10, 200817 yr This is also a male.... Â Â His cere is a dark pinky brown - he looks even more like a hen in real life. It can all get very confusing with DF and Recessive pieds
March 10, 200817 yr Double factor dominant pieds often have a cere that shows two colours like yours do. I say they are both boys
March 10, 200817 yr Author Double factor dominant pieds often have a cere that shows two colours like yours do. I say they are both boys I must remember that next time!! In the meantime, I'm on a search for a nice hen to put with the yellow cock bird. Thanks everyone for your help!!
March 10, 200817 yr good luck with that... I was looking at some places today and they had the cocks and hens 'Seperated'. I looked at one 'hen' and its cere was bluer than a Manu Samoa jersey (Rugby Union team for the Victorians.) I said, "Are you sure thats a hen?" and she looked and goes, "oh it might be a boy..."

March 15, 200817 yr Author okay, I am back from the bird sale! And these are the birds I bought. Had to do some switching around as I had 2 males together and the cock bird in another nest was "firing blanks"
March 15, 200817 yr Nice chunky birds Jenene....they are really nice Treat them for scalyface as the opaline spangle blue boy has the beginnings of scaly face.
