Posted February 4, 200520 yr Hi, Although I have bred before I would class myself as a learner and have a question to ask. Last year I let my budgies breed, but I found that the females would fight til death for a nesting box and I lost about 5 females to fights. I have since had a new avairy built and there are no nesting boxes in as yet, but I would like to try again. Would it be better if I had more nesting boxes than females to try to stop any fighting? From Karen
February 4, 200520 yr Karen, the short answer is most definately yes :bluebudgie: I would provide at least twice the number of nest boxes to hens, so 4 hens = 8 boxes, and also place them all at the same level in the aviary, hens will fight for the highest nesting position.
February 4, 200520 yr another little tip leave about 5or 6 inchs between boxs as it is not unheard of **** birds sitting on top and running along them chasing other birds away
