March 7, 200817 yr Just out of curiosity wanted to know, how many days old was this double yolk egg when you have taken these candled pictures. Thanks for the wonderful photo showing egg size differences. This breeding season Ive had about 7 double yolkers all ready , I started in feb, but this is the first to be fertile. As far as I read double yolk eggs are very rare, but I am very much surprised seeing your post to know that you already had 7....would you like to share here the secret behind these many double yolk eggs .

As far as I read double yolk eggs are very rare, but I am very much surprised seeing your post to know that you already had 7....would you like to share here the secret behind these many double yolk eggs . The egg was at the fourth day of incubation. And Ive had 7 double yolkers from 3 different hens , a Lutino, the sky spangle and a cobalt hen. As I said Im now looking as to the possibilities of what causes the hen to lay double yolkers.
March 9, 200817 yr Good plan. Do you think it's in the genes too? Would a twin budgie be more likely to lay a double yolker?? Like Kaz's twin???
March 9, 200817 yr Good plan. Do you think it's in the genes too? Would a twin budgie be more likely to lay a double yolker?? Like Kaz's twin??? I dont think so . The double yolk egg seems to be laid randomly, and the three hens arent related. Ive been breeding since I bought my house in 2000 and Ive had double yolkers on and off since then so to see one isnt highly unusual , but to finally see one fertile is for me . So who knows whats going to happen.

March 10, 200817 yr Look in the interests of all budgie lovers I think Kaz should give me Steel, you should give me all your hens that lay double yokers and I'll study them intensively for an extended periood of time... I'm sure that you understand the importance of this to the wider budgie community and look forward to you delivering then shortly... oh did I mention that I would be charging you ajistment fees as the birds would legally be your and would simply be living on my land :budgiedance: :hap: I'm so funny. :(Laughing out loud):
March 10, 200817 yr With regard to twins in an egg. Often they do not reach hatching point as with growth, space becomes a premium. If they reach hatching point then its a struggle for them to get out of the egg without taxing themselves. I found my twins pretty exhausted and I fed them their first feed and a few feeds after that to give them strength. If yours reach hatching point you may want to be around that day to help them out a little and keep them going :budgiedance:

Ive always loved that special moment when you catch the chick as its cracking through the shell , Ive been there many times and it still amazes me when the chick hatches out into your hand. And on a different note , Ive never been one to deal with a middle man ( your out jimmy) Kas , just seed Steel direct to my place.

March 10, 200817 yr Has there ever been a triple Yok to anyones knowledge?? I would imagine that it would be extremely unlikely to hatch but would be interesting to know...
