Posted March 6, 200817 yr This is an egg from my sky spangle hen I bought last year , Her very first nest had 6 eggs but they wernt fertile. Of the six eggs 2 eggs were double yolkers. Ive had double yolk eggs before in the past but have never been able to hatch them , I have read that some people have been able to hatch them . So her second round is under way and she has laid 3 eggs First normal , not fertile Second a double yolker and fertile Third a double yolker but hasnt yet coloured up yet . Heres a picture of the egg , if you look closley you can see the yolks one at each end, and you can see the blood veins forming.
March 6, 200817 yr thats really cool and weird at the same time. Dumb question coming.... can you get 'twins' from a double yolker???? OR is it still just a single chick???
March 6, 200817 yr that's pretty cool! but i have no idea how you can see the double yolks :PI must be blind :SBut i definatly see fertility!Yes Liv... That's how you get twins ... Well Non siamese twins anyway :fear... Siamese are joined together so i can't remember if it's two eggs that fuse... or one egg that seperates (Laughing out loud) or rather for budgies, i guess it would be neucleas, if they're possible
March 6, 200817 yr If you look at the second photo you can see the too curves of the yolks in the middle of the egg . Maybe tomoz I will take a photo of a normal egg to compare.
March 6, 200817 yr That's cool! there's no rush! i'm just blind :fear Some pics of your birds would be cool to see though i don't think i've seen any before

Your chicks must have been TINY when they hatched... they would only have half the space to grow...They were very tiny and if I hadnt noticed immediately and fed them they may not have made it. As it is I only have the one left. March 6, 200817 yr the second photo I can see the double yolk, but it took me a while.. had to look in the middle and found the lines of the bottom of both yolks. how very cool to see the photo of the candled egg. good luck!!
March 6, 200817 yr i looked and looked but could not see a double yolk but good luck with the eggs and the hen is gorgeous.
March 7, 200817 yr Recently I have read about twins and I couldn't able to believe this with budgies, thought of opening a new thread. Â Really it is very nice to see the picture of double yolk candled egg, though I couldn't able to make out two yolks as some members. Good luck and soon hope to see the pictures of these beautiful twins. Â I would love to see the closeup picture of single and double yolk eggs placed side by side for comparing the sizes of the both. March 7, 200817 yr Double yolker eggs should be roughly the same size as the other eggs in the nest, the yolks are just smaller.... Same applies for when you get a chicken egg with double yolk... it's usually the same size as the rest in the carton
March 7, 200817 yr My double yolker egg that the twins were in was 30 percent larger than the other eggs in the nest. Edited March 7, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 7, 200817 yr wow, I can really see the yolks in the second photo!Good luck,I hope they turn out for you.I d remember Kaz's twins. The egg comparison is a great photo too.
March 7, 200817 yr the difference http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh116/m.../doubleyolk.jpg   WOW there is a big difference in size (poor HEN!!!). I can see how 2 chicks could fit in there now there would be just enough space for them both. Good luck and i hope its TWINS!!! :hap: Edited March 7, 200817 yr by *libby* changed photo to link
