Posted March 5, 200817 yr i am just wondering how long does it take for a budgie to got through their first moult, Violet started moulting nearly 2 months ago and is still looking scruffy. could there be something wrong with her? she does not seem sick at all.She still comes to me when i go in the aviary but tries to bite my ears and back of my neck.
March 5, 200817 yr don't worry, it is normal for budgies to go through a molt that is 2 months long or abit longer. is is also normal for budgies to bite more when they are going through their molts Edited March 5, 200817 yr by birdluv
March 5, 200817 yr with the articial air in our homes it seems like it is either an endless moult or all at once a couple months ago it was a full out molt and now again just 2 months later it is now a more gradually molt nuts and they look sickly during it too so it is always a worry
March 5, 200817 yr Author she is outside in the aviary and the weather has been changing so much. one week it is cold and wet and then the next week it is really hot.could the weather be making the moult longer.i would love her to finishing moulting so i can work out what her colour is.
March 6, 200817 yr Sometimes they can get stuck in a moult and it goes on forever. You can get MOULTING AID froma bird supply shop and it goes in their drinking water. Adds a lot of extra vitamins and things they need to help the new feather growth.
March 6, 200817 yr that is a great idea Kaz, I didn't know if that stuff worked, I am going to get it because I do see Merlin drink and even bath in his water especially right when I change it .
