Posted March 4, 200817 yr Hi all My newest addition Balki is out of quarantine and has joined my other 2. He is very happy to have new friends. I don't think George and Franklin have accepted him completely as yet. When Balki gets close to them they peck at him but they haven't hurt him or have been violent towards him. I guess it may take a bit of time for them to get used him. I was wondering if it is common for a flock not to accept a new member? My first was George and when I introduced Franklin they got on like a house on fire and followed each other all the time. I have included a couple of pics of my 3.
March 4, 200817 yr Looks like Balki is fitting in perfectly Everything you mention sounds completely normal budgie "getting to know you" behavior Oh, and by the way... your photos are AWESOME!!!! i love the close up!!! (you should enter one into BOM ) Edited March 4, 200817 yr by **Liv**
March 4, 200817 yr Normal behaviour. I think they are just letting Balki know who's top dog in this yard. When I transfer my young birds into the flight all mayham breaks loose as they chase the poor young birds around, This normally lasts about 30 mins or so.
March 4, 200817 yr Introducing budgies slowly instead of just putting them together is sometimes the best thing. This is what I did with my 2 boys because Pretty thought Merlin was a wonderful mating partner in the beginning and there would be fights. I only let them interact out of the cage at first and once they were used to each other then, in the cage during the day when I was home when that was okay then all night and permanently. It sounds like a lot but when you have a smaller cage vs a very large aviary it is sometimes necessary to take it slow so no one gets hurt.
March 4, 200817 yr I'm sure everything will settle down, just give them ALL time. Your photos are very clear and very cute. You should definately enter into the April Budgie of the Month. Your budgies are just adorable.
