Posted March 1, 200817 yr Hi. I'm about to add some more toys to the aviary and have noticed that there are now rubber toys out (apart from kongs) and I was wondering if anybody has had any bad experinces with them? The ones that I have seen seem to be quite felixable and I'm just a bit concerned that if they were bitten enough that the birds may swallow the pieces. Any thoughts or comments would be helpful. Thanks
March 1, 200817 yr Don't Quote me But I am sure they aren't any good - That is why they make bird toys out of wood ... If they chew/peck/bite the rubber they will digest it this is the same with some bird toys too that have all that loose cotton thread I was at my vets and they had to pull out a tangled mess from a birds throat because of the cotton - There are hard plastic Acrylic Toys and even Dog toys that are suitable for birds - The new Wood ones have flavours for the birds too ....... Try making your own toys, this is fun for both you and the birds .....

Thanks This is the only rubber toy/item I use in the avairy. My budgies and Tiels love it. I don't have any concerns with it or them chewing bits off, but I always check it and will dispose of it if and when it shows damage.
March 1, 200817 yr Most budgies bite probably can't penetrate a hard rubber such as Maise has shown, can you post a picture of the toy you are talking about and we can help you further.
