Lost Flight Feathers ?

Featured Replies

hi we've had a budgie for a couple of months now but he is still quiet young. Last week the cage was knocked over but he was fine and still his normal self but the next day we discovered one of his flight feathers on the floor so he is missing it on 1 side! He has been fine but when we let him out now he can't fly properly because of the side he lost them. I was just wondering if they grow back at all????

:D Other than that he is perfectly fine it would just be nice to have him flying properly again

Budgies generally go through a molt every 3-4 months and the knocking over of the cage could have been the cause but I am assuming she is probably going to start going through a molt where she will loose old feathers and new ones will grow in. You can see it on the top of their heads it looks like black specks scattered those are pin feathers and when the black covering will fall off and the bird will have a beautiful new feather under it.

Do you have any pictures of your bird? or how old your budgie is?

Welcome to the forums

Are your sure they are flight feathers? and not a molt I understand that a knock in the cage and shake them up a bit and this could be the cause of the lack of flight... Post a picture so we can see better

Hi Jess,

the answer to your question is YES, the flight will grow back again and he should be fine. It seems strange that he is having difficulty flying with only 1 flight feather missing, maybe he is a little sore from the tumble.

Feathers.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I'd be watching him carefully for other signs of 'illness'. His tumble may cause other symptoms, so watch our for a dirty/pooie bottom etc... f this is the case, this, as other members have said, could be why he can't fly properly. Also check he's eating, drinking and behaving as normal... Please keep us updated
