Posted February 29, 200817 yr We have some white lacewing chicks in a nest. I did a test mating with a show type lacewing and a pet type lacewing. I know, not the recommended pairing...BUT I had concerns about the lacewing cock and needed to test mate him to see if all was well and he was fertile. So I put the show type lacewing cock to my pet type lacewing hen MING. They had 6 eggs and I didnt candle them as my flexitorch needed a new globe and I couldnt get one....so I took a chance. Today saw the hatching of number five chick, and all so far are red eyed as expected from a lacewing to lacewing mating. Lacewing to lacewing gets 100% lacewings both hens and cocks. Ming has been a good mother despite the hot weather conditions and the chicks are all fine. Number 6 chick expected on Sunday. I dont expect the chicks to be large, or show types, but who knows whats hiding in their genes. At least they will be pretty. Will try for photos soon Edited September 5, 200816 yr by KAZ

March 2, 200817 yr This is the Dad and the hen with the cock Chicks later today. The Dad's got nice dark markings! Very nice Kaz
March 2, 200817 yr Author The last egg was no good. I also moved chick number five into another nest as it was too young and its parents were trying to feed it seed instead of crop milk. It is fine in a nest of show type green and grey green foster parents with three other babies its size. Here is a photo of four of the others. Was hard to take and they were very active and moving all around. I took a photo of the young one fostered out but the photo turned out badly.
March 2, 200817 yr Awww Kaz I love the parents they are adorable, can't wait for the babies to start having feathers. There is something gorgeous about birds with red eyes,so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.I am so missing my aviary at the moment.
March 3, 200817 yr This is the Dad and the hen with the cock Chicks later today. The Dad's got nice dark markings! Very nice Kaz :hap: Here is my only lacewing, she is not as well marked as yours KAZ. But has some great brothers. The Grey green next to her is a brother and the big boy opaline green is also a brother. "> The lacewing and the big green opaline has something in common. A funny feather that grows from there right foot. So I am going to test mate them later in the year. Should be interesting, may get lacewings as good as the opaline. Big boy Opaline green ">
