I hope you enjoy these images, as I was hurrying late yesterday to get them posted, as I said I would & running out of time. I cropped the pictures made them to the correct size for the site, then when I went to Photobucket I couldn't find any trace of them, not one of them, they had faded into the ether. So this morning I have done it all again. I'm having trouble with my PC of late, may have to reinstall. First a couple of pictures of my first Blue Dusk.

A picture of one of the father Dusks for reference.

One of my Fallows that I bought, I thought it was a female in the aviary, but from this picture it looks like a male don’t you think?

And then some pictures of some unusual birds I have bred, I think they are all related maybe brothers, as haven't caught them up to check their rings yet.

I think they have Opaline in them & may be they are split. There is always discussion about whether birds with a little Blue in the wing bars are split Opaline, but these birds seem to have more than usual. What do you think, has anyone got similar birds? I have no hens with this colouring, which may prove that it's just split Opaline, but would like to be able to breed some birds with this as a regular Mutation.

Point taken Aly…I guess I can't begin to understand what you have to put up with,
Oh Norm, I really didn't mean it that way... it was VERY tongue in cheek. I know what it is like trying to get in and out of those small doors... thankfully I only have one of them. Everytime I am at a bird store I look longingly at the big doors and vow I am going to get around to putting one in one day.The dusks are certainly interesting, Norm. I really must visit one day and check out all these rares you have collected.Feathers.ps: my texas clearbody was being very seriously chatted up by a big grey today after the rain, I am seriously thinking of putting them into a breeding cabinet!

As alway your more than welcome.

I have been trying to find some articles on what's best other than Lutino, to mate with TCB's, I'm sure I had an article from a breeder, but so far haven't been able to find it as yet. I was wondering if a Grey or Grey Green were good crosses, as they often say that Grey leaves a Grey infusion through birds...but if not worrying about showing go for it.

A whole day has passed & not one comment… hasn’t anyone got any ideas on any of my picies.

 Patience is a virtue my dear Norm.

I can't comment on their quality etc... But you have some very pretty birds there. Your Blue dusk is just adorable, I'm still kind of scared of the red eyes (something about them freaks me out) and your others are beautiful!.

Happy?!?! :D

I am amazed at the colouring of the dusks....they have a very "3 dimensional" range in their feathers I havent seen in anything else. Besides all that your birds are looking GOOD

Thanks guys …A little bit happier Maesie…(Laughing out loud)…anyone got any birds like those maybe Opaline splits or got any ideas on them.

Yes Kaz strange isn't it how there is so much variation in the feathering colouring, that seems one of the main differences with them & a sort of more intense colour, will be interesting to try how it effects other coulours once some of the younguns mature...both cocks I bought are 2003 birds so may not breed that much more, so good to get some young stock from them.

Your birds are awesome Norm, you must be very pleased with them :D

I had a bit of a think about my pairing, Norm, and I have put texas CB Cammie with one of my male lute's. We will see how it goes!

I really love the last bird that you posted... and the dusks are really nice too.

If your TCB’s a female Aly, a Lutino is probably the best, as at least you will get some TCB’s from that pairing.

it is indeed, Norm. I am taking your word for it. I have never bothered reading up on the genetics of this mutation as I only had the one and it is a pet type bird. So that is cool. She is will a fairly poor exhibition type male lute, but that is neither here nor there. The only things I have learnt are from your couple of posts on the subject.. so thanks

Feathers.

just saw the photos and WOW the dusks are BEAUTIFUL! Stunning depth of color and definatly unique,

I can say I've never seen one quite like that. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.

as for the oddly opalinesque colors, never seen that before... would be interested to find out their pedigrees.

Just a foot note to this post…it took me a long time to think of it, as my legs & joints have been giving me trouble for almost two months, I was putting it down to old age, giving up coffee, doing some work on a floor…but the coin has just dropped maybe I have Ross River Fever Virus from the mosquitoes, as they have been real bad this year with all the rain we have been getting. The only way I could be sure would be to have a blood test, I got tested a few years ago as it’s quite common here, but I hadn’t had it at that time, but I had, had Barmah Forest Fever which is similar. At least you can recover from that whereas it’s hard to recover from old age…(Laughing out loud).

Ross River Virus....hmmmm. go for the tests Norm and best of luck with getting it all sorted. Nothing worse than feeling your body is letting you down when you have so much to do and so much you want to do as well :(

Next time I have a blood test I will ask to confirm if that’s what I had, but there’s nothing they can do for it, just rest, a little excise & good food. I hate getting blood tests, but I’m sure it wont be long before they want to take some, they do it all the time these days…yes frustrating & a bugger not being able to do all you want…but seem to be starting to feel better.

Hi Norm

Been there done that back in the 70's. I was one of the first people diagnosed in the Caboolture area.

Back to the topic. How would you describe a typical dusk?

Thanks

That’s difficult Derek, I think they are just a colour intensifier a bit like Violet & Grey, they darken the colours, but what I think is if you look at the pictures on here you will see that the feathers on their breasts seem to vary more, whereas most other colours the feathers are basically the same colour. You get darker feathers & then lighter ones on the same bird.

Your dusks are soooo pretty! The feathers look more fluffy than usual because of the definition. I love your fallow too, and yes, he looks like a cock to me. He is very much like my one and only fallow.......now if only I could find him a mate. Well he has actually found himself a mate, but I mean a fallow gal (someday :D)

I wish you well with your health. I have had bouts of arthritis, which have fortunately been in remission for a very long time and I thank every day that is pain free. I hope you start to feel much better soon :)

My sympathies Norm if it is RRF. My wife had it in the early nineties just after our second child. It really knocked her for a six. At the time it was relatively new in N.S.W. The Government health department sent her out a survey to fill out listing her symptoms and a women payed us a visit, just the thing you want when your not well! :rip:

Hope you feel better soon Norm. I can't imagine what RRF is like.

Very cute budgies. So many people have great looking budgies here... None from Melbourne though... must be to cold for the right colours :) j.k to all you Melbourne Budgie Breeders... I'll be around very soon to pick mine up... 2 lacewings please... :fear

:) i'm so jealous!!!! you got sooo many fallows!

You'll just have to send some over for me :D

I've got my pair down for a second round atm, so far 4 eggs... haven't checked for fertility though

  • Author

Don’t worry Libby you’ll get some more… it was a pretty good batch only one egg didn’t hatch. Before I bought the hen Fallow I only had the one bird, this Dad who is a Blue Fallow, at first I tried breeding him with one hen that just wouldn’t breed then I changed him to another & his fertility has been real good. I have quite a few split birds that I can pick from now when the young ones get old enough to breed.

Thanks for your opinion Sunnie on my other Fallow who I want to mate soon as I get a cabinet for him. From a distance & in the aviary I though he looked like a hen, but from that picture he looks like a cock to me too.

Thanks for your thoughts Jimmy, just as well I'm some distance from Melbourne & hopfully my birds are safe...I only have two Lacewings & I don't think the cock is any good either.
