Posted February 28, 200817 yr hi two days ago we started our breeding project. one of the budgies angel is in her breeding cage and is hanging upside down on the wire. we put up a curtian up to stop other budgies looking in on angel but she still goes mad!!! whats happening?! TF
February 28, 200817 yr I am going to take a stab at this and say she probably is not used to being in such small enclosure especially if she came from an aviary style setting. I will let others answer too. Do you have a picture of your breeding set up you can post?
February 28, 200817 yr I have a cockatiel going through the same thing right now... he is going to my dad's place in a month and i brought him inside yesterday to tame him and get him used to a smaller cage before his departure. OMG he is going crazy, climbing, pacing, screeching and generally unsettled its horrible to watch :hap: I am hoping he is better today though. So anyway i would agree with Elly and say your Angel is not happy with her small apartment after living in a huge mansion Edited February 28, 200817 yr by **Liv**
February 28, 200817 yr Where have you got your breeding cabinet in relation to your aviary and other birds ?
February 28, 200817 yr Do you have your breeding box inside the avairy ? If so take it away so she cannot see the other birds but can hear them. I believe that she is being distracted by the others.
February 29, 200817 yr Author our breeding box is not in hte aviry and we have put a curtian up nto block the other budgies tweets. she hasnt been as bad. thanks TF
February 29, 200817 yr Do you have photos you can share , because if the box even if she is settling down now during the raising of the chicks is cruicial so she doesn't abandon them. We can't always speculate why hens or cocks abandon a nest but giving them nearly perfect conditions is important.
February 29, 200817 yr Its great to have the aviary sounds, but a pair in a breeding cabinet if too close to the aviary...just want to be free and with the other birds. The curtain should work...but some distance may be required
February 29, 200817 yr Hey. I am not too sure if this is a help to you but funny enough I had ( she passed ) an angel too and she went completly feral when it came to breeding ( I colony breed ) and when she was ready to lay agin she attacked another box ( with small chick They survived ) But still any time she came into breeding condition no one could go near her .... Now her Daughter (angel 2 >my daughter named her (Laughing out loud) >) is in the same spot she is in condition and sits up the top of the aviary and if any bird goes near she is squeaking and flapping and the works ready to peak ...... I think it is a protective thing .... This is just from my opinion though But if she has settled with the curtian see how she goes .....
