Posted February 27, 200817 yr I really want to convert my budgies from a seed to a pellet diet. The problem is that I have heard that there can be a lot of bad things in pellets, so I would like to hear any suggestions for pellet brands in Australia. So far I have only found "Vetafarm Finch, Canary and Budgie Crumbles" and "Passwell Crumbles". Are these any good?
February 27, 200817 yr We have had many discussions about the merits or not of pellets.... here's a recent discussion http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....&hl=pellets I am one who will not be feeding my birds pellets. It seems to be a big thing for our american budgie owners and not so big a thing for the australian budgie owners. Me...I prefer a natural diet with all the extra vegies and natural branches and leaves from the australian bush for my birds rather than highly processed unnatural food that makes a budgie have to re educate the way it processes its food. But thats me and you will get other opinions.

Currently my budgies are on a seed diet (Trill) with veggies every day and fruit about once a week. They also get eucalyptus leaves and branches about 3 times a week as well as bottle brush and any other native plants I can get my hands on. Oh, and a millet spray about once every 2 weeks. So this will be okay? Because pellets are more expensive than seeds. I just want whats best for them.

They are lucky to be living with you. Edited February 27, 200817 yr by KAZ
February 27, 200817 yr Balance is very important. My avian vet does suggest pellets but I believe in balance too. You can read these articles from our FAQ section: Just click on the Name Pellet Diet Budgie Food Diet Why I shouldn't just Feed Pellets Teaching your Budgie to Eat a Variety of Foods All these articles PLUS more are located in our FAQ section and give you excellent information and you can base your decision on all the information given plus view of our members. I personally do give Merlin pellets but it is mixed with his seed, veggies, etc...
February 27, 200817 yr I use Trill and fresh foods as well. In my opinion it is a far better diet then pellets :wine
