February 26, 200817 yr Do all "good gened" babies have feathers like that? Not sure I have ever seen that before
February 26, 200817 yr Do all "good gened" babies have feathers like that? Not sure I have ever seen that before Its called directional feather and indicates its from good genes on a show type bird.
February 26, 200817 yr Author Here you go some more pics. He's no good for show as during the wet humid conditions food went goey and stuck to his beak and on trying to carefully take it off found it had grown somewhat into his beak. I had to catch up his foster mum too as she had a huge wad of goo on her beak which even though she hated me grabbing her you could see the relief on her face when I put her back and she started preening. The bonus with this chick is he is so gorgeous and playful!!! He loves to have his head scratched already and knows how to manipulate me into doing all over his head and neck! :(Laughing out loud): Mum has dubbed him Spike so until/unless something different seems more appropriate Spike it is! This is his parents, Supermum and her Husbird just before Supermum lost interest in the chicks: Edited February 26, 200817 yr by karen
February 26, 200817 yr He is so cute . I can see that the parents have their leg bands on different legs, does it matter which leg do you put the band on? Or is it up to the breeder?
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for more photos!! he's GORGEOUS.. and looks so friendly... lovable.. and cuddly!!!!!!
February 26, 200817 yr Hey Karen- dont worry bout his beak, it should grow out in a few weeks. I had a lovebird like it and once it was cleaned off the new growth came through fine. He's still a spunk though@@

Most of mine end up on the left leg as its easier for me to do the left leg.
February 26, 200817 yr Karen what a gorgeous chick, looks like the mother but will have the size of the father
February 26, 200817 yr It doesnt matter which leg you put the legring on. Most of mine end up on the left leg as its easier for me to do the left leg. and I find it easier on the right!! (plus its the Virgo coming out in me- I like them all to match!)

February 26, 200817 yr The first chick I ringed, it ended up on the left leg, so I have been doing the left leg ever since! Not a virgo, but a very pedantic perfectionist Feathers.
