Need Help With Poo Problem.

Featured Replies

My new budgie seems to have pooping issues. It is sticking to the feathers. It also looks like she sometimes is having a difficult time pooping.

Any sugjestions? How do I clean things up?

Thanks.

She/HE is only new to your home so she could just be a bit stressed. its quite normal for a bird to have poop problems for a day or so after they move house.

Has she got the runs? are they green? is she fluffed up? Is her diet very different to the place where she came from? is she eating yet?? She should probably be wormed too. lots of questions, sorry. See what the others say too

was that back of your birds head plucked or going through a molt? It looks thin back there. Liv is right a lot of times if the poo is just watery then it is an indication of stress. If the symptoms continue on though I would suggest an avian vet check-up.

Now that you mention it, the feathers do look like they have been plucked... Poor little guy :hap: . they will grow back though :hap:

The runs once in a while. Sometimes it looks normal. Not fluffed up. The diet is the same, I bought the same mix they were feeding. I did put in a dish of pellet in too. It hasn't been touched yet. He/she is eating milet, and maybe some seed.

The feathers on the back of the head may have been plucked. Some are also still spikes. I try to pet/scratch the head a little to open the spikes up. I'm sure by the next molt, every thing will look good.

Your pretty little budgie could be just stressed (as the others have said), but keep a very close eye on him/her. Check the keel bone (chest), if it's sharp it means he/she is underweight and may be unwell. If this is the case, I'd take it to an avian vet asap. It the weight is okay, maye just keep an eye on him/her and hopefully the poo issue may pass.
