Do they want to breed?

Featured Replies

I recently found out that my bob is a female. At first i wasn't too sure but over the past couple of weeks, her cere has changed from violet to a mid-brownish sort of colour

I'm thinking about breeding her and sky, but i don't know... Bob is about a year old (has a yellow ring) and sky is six-9 months older.there is only bob and sky in the cage. I've heard that budgies will only breed when there is other birds around?

And also, what signs to look for to know that they want to mate? i know that mating couples will feed each other, and my two bicker a lot too but then make up and sit next to each other and preen each other. (i swear they're like little people), and i've also seen sky feeding bob but not very often. They've got quite a large cage considering there's only two of them in it, so do you think i should add a nest box and see if anything comes of it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

this is wrong they will breed but having more birds helps as the noise spurs them on

i agree with hath , more birds will encourage them but dont worry if it doesnt happen.just watch them there will be some more signs if you want to breed then by all means get a nestbox we are here to help and advise.good luck mistymoo

p.s i started of with 2 birds and now have an indoor aviary with a few more.

I think i'll try it then. Thanks.

i'm going to go and get them a nest box tomorrow and then if it happens it happens. If not, i'm sure they'll love it as a hidey hole, (Laughing out loud)...

Try leaving a radio on near their cage the noise stimulates them to chatter and has a similar effect to a flock of birds which encourages them to breed........strange but true :bluebudgie:

hey thanks for that mike!
