Posted February 21, 200817 yr 32 days for Barney 30 days for Pheobe And they are FINALLY free form their little Quarantine cages!!!! Barney's purple still isn't showing up in the pics - he is VIVID and looks even more spectacular next to my other birds. Barney(left) sizes up the boys. Social Rankings are tested The top dog keeps his status. Secret mens business held Around the triangle perch Pheobe (sky blue opaline) on the other hand - freaked out!!! She came from a petshop and now i think she may have been bred in a cage, rather than an avairy. I think she has never known so much space in her life!!! She flew around frantic, and is a bit scared of the other birds - both the budgies and the tiels. She even was warey of the natural perches and didnt want to land on them at first. I will have to keep an eye on her to make sure she finds the food and water etc. She causiously checked out the nestboxes - it was very cute to watch her try and peek in the holes with out getting nipped by its occupants. She she is very flitty and i hope she is going to settle in okay She wont be with the boxes for long. I am currently doing a overhaul of my 2 avaries so i can create a seperate baby avariy - I will post info on that soon Also i have decided not to pair her and Barney together. I am going to find him an adult YF normal hen Pheobe i will pair with the boy to the right of the first photo - he is about a month older than her, so they can bond in the baby flight (hope to have it done this weekend). February 21, 200817 yr it is great when you can finally let them out of quarintenee, i have one who has still got 2 weeks to go but she can hear the birds in the avairy and keeps calling out to them. i hope Pheobe settles down and learns to love all the extra space she has.
February 21, 200817 yr Lovely budgies, all of them, hope Phoebe can get adjusted to all that space she never had before!

He is really happy now.Really nice photos Liv Thanks Kaz, I'm worried about Pheobe though. She is very timid. Could the stress cause her to get sick. should she go back into quarantine, or will she just get over it???Great shots, I really love Barneys' colour .Thanks Bec Sta, Barney is really pretty and he stands out in my flock too. He is the colour of that kids dinosour Barney, hence the name hehehebeautiful pictures, do you coloney breed?I do at the moment. I have 3 pairs now on their last round until Spring. 1 female is getting retired from breeding after this clutch because she is 4 years old and given me about 15 lovely babys in her time I am thinking about modifying my flight avairy to have breeding cages in it so i can better choose the pairs. For now I am just seperating the adults from the babies. I have until spring to decide about the breeding cages techinique. Lovely budgies, all of them, hope Phoebe can get adjusted to all that space she never had before! Thanks, I hope she settles in soon too. she is going to get exausted with all the flying around and exploring she is doing.
February 21, 200817 yr gotcha, I just wondered because I know most are closed breeding and I didn't realize you colony bred .
February 21, 200817 yr Author gotcha, I just wondered because I know most are closed breeding and I didn't realize you colony bred . I love the unpredictible colours that come from colony breeding Now, however i want to get some YF violet Opalines Barney needs a YF female And i have a Big Grey Spangle cock who i want to find a hen for too. Phoebe has the violet gene and a very light YF I might have a cock for her, but YF and YF = No YF . So i have 3 birds( still needing partners) that i would like to closed breed if i can
February 21, 200817 yr If you put 2 YF together you have a 25% double factor yellow face that = visual white face, the rest 75% chance is YF so I don't understand your thoughts?
February 21, 200817 yr Great to see them in the avairy. Looks like they're loving the extra space already. As for Phoebe, she may become stresses and end up sick, or she may get used to being there and be okay. When I introduced Tweet Tweet to my avairy (he was found in the backyard), I put his cage (after 30 days of quarintine) into the avairy, so he could check things out. After a few days, I opened the door and let him do what he wanted. He often went back inside, esp at night. The cage was in the avairy for nearly two weeks. He seemed to adjust quite well, and is now wooing all the girls . I hope all goes well with her. You have some really pretty colors there too!

I will pop her cage in there and see if she wants it . she is doing much better now. I have seen her eating, and preening and trying to make friends. I feel she was possibly as young as 4 weeks when i bought her. She has no social skills - she tries to land on other birds and chases them around the avairy. I have never seen a bird act like she does, i am just hoping its because she has been "sheltered" and will learn how to act like the others in the flock.
February 21, 200817 yr Author Well they are setteled in for the night and i think Pheobe will be a lot calmer tomorrow. She was not looking stresses so much, more like a kid at a fun park - she didn't know what to do first and wanted to try everything at the same time!!!! Pheobe: "The nest boxes, no fly, no swoop the others, No eat, No the swing, No fly, no the nest boxes, no fly, no eat....... OHHHHhh too much stimuli "
February 21, 200817 yr Like my nearly 3 year old nephew at the zoo... he saw one animal for about 2 seconds and then wanted to move on to the next one!!! She'll be fine. Hope her first night goes well.

Pheobe is a YF sky blue Opaline. I would like to (next year) hopfully get some YF opalines from her. I have a YF Pied Cock (picture 1 on the right) and i was wondering if i would get YF's from them...??? Pheobe's YF is VERY light, almost cream colour and i really want to get brighter YF chicks. If YF+YF = 75% YF than thats great. I alsways thought YF+YF = white face. I am really excited about breeding YF opalines next year, i think they are gorgeous!!!! Been there done that with my son. He got so excited at the zoo that he got a REALLY bad nose bleed and it wouldnt stop - he was covered in blood and some bystanders were looking a little pale - (Laughing out loud). he was fine though. it was a hot day and a lot of excitement for a little boy hehe. Kids and animals - like salt on chips Edited August 15, 200816 yr by **Liv**

February 21, 200817 yr Yellow face is a complicated gene to say the least but if you have 2 yellow faces they are visual so they are carrying 1 yellow face gene in the case of a 2 white faces that are actually yellow faces they yes they would produce all white faces but that would be a difficult one to determine unless you bred each bird to a true white face and see if you get any yellow faces. 2 yellow faces will produce yellow faced babies, YF2 is dominant over Y1.
February 21, 200817 yr I'll take Barney & the blue & white budgie beside him. Why don't we have these colors here in our stores ????? WHY WHY ???? I will be over later to get them. NO need to have cake or cookies for me ! In fact I will bring some cake of my own. I will take very very good care of them. I swear. Okay Thanks.

Yep! it's kid proofed! has to be. My two would open the doors in no time without locks. And they are combination locks so you can't pick it (before you get any ideas) hehehehe
