Books For Kids?

Featured Replies

Hi - i am looking for a book about anything & everything to do with budgies, inlcuding breeding, for my 7 year old step-son. Does such a book exist specifically for children??

Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Susan

If you look in the children's section of the library you will find a lot of nice budgie books, we have at our local library here in the US.

:ygbudgie: I think it's lovely that your stepson is interested in budgies, but at 7 years of age, I don't think breeding should be part of the information that he is privy to. :bluebudgie: Oh and welcome to BBC, you will find out much useful information here! :)

I think the breeding should be left up to you with giving your step-son a need to know information. As far as useful information, This forum is the best, Just post your question and you will recieve many answers.

Thank you - i will definitely try the library for ideas - i hadn't even thought to look there as we wanted to buy him his own book.

I know nothing about breeding budgies, but my husband used to breed them when he was a child (starting at about 7 until his mid-teens) and he will be hands on with his son through the process, but we just wanted to get him his own book as he has expressed a keen interest...... i'm sorry if you guys think he's too young........

I don't feel he's too young and the fact your husband and you are behind him helps alot :D Support from parents when young and breeding is all anyone on this forum really wants for younger breeders so i wish you all luck

I started breeding when i was about 12 - it's an exciting adventure.

Good luck with finding a book - pet shops often have budgie books for sale :D

Books are good, but they don't cover everything - We can fill in the gaps for you

Here are some good books

These books may not be child specific. But a book that is a beginners guide to budgies may get close. Cheers kaz

How about a photo of our newest and youngest budgie member :D

I don't feel he is too young like others have expressed it is wonderful for them to watch a responsible parent because that is who is going to be doing all the work. Another good thing people need to consider before breeding is all the unwanted "pets" and that includes birds out there too. Life is a miracle and is wonderful too see but we find ourselves not wanting to deal with the hunderds and thousands of homeless pets that are put to sleep on a daily basis. We must always consider what is going to happen to the baby that we produce because we are ultimately responsible for their life on where they are going to get a good home.

Taking kids to a shelter at the age of 7 is a good way to teach them responsible habits such at taking care of our pets, being responsible when we are adding the pet population and more.

We should not only look at the miracle of birth but the results of overpopulation. I am not trying to be a downer but stating the facts of life.
