Can I Keep A Chick ?

Well..... an update on Rodger and Sunny, I have 5 eggs (first laid on the 1st) so I am on intense egg watch... I've read everything I can get my hands on, have feeding supliment on hand (just incase) and I am soooo scared I'll do something wrong.

I have been giving heaps of greens and checking twice a day, tapping the box so she comes out so I can check, I havn't checked if the eggs are fertile, I'll just let nature decide for me ( I don't have any experience so could be wrong ) Rodger hasn't been in the nest box but Sunny lives in there now and comes out to be fed by Rodger. I have found homes for all the babies (if I get 5 ) ..... but wanted to ask about keeping one baby ...... whats the deal there, do I need a seperate cage ? Will that upset my pair ? ( I have one on standby in case of problems )

If you want to keep one, just take out the nest box and you shouldnt have too many probs. Keeping one with the pair and a nest box is asking for trouble.

Good luck, wont have long to wait now!!

You mean keeping the fledged babies? Keeping fledged babies is fine. keep as many as you like - I keep all of mine :) (except for the odd baby that someone else falls in love with too)

How big is your cage you will have to wait for all the babies to be weaned before they can be separated from their parents.

I normally remove the next box at about 5-6 weeks (the chicks will be fully feathered by then) and leave both parents in there until I see the babies feeding themselves and flying from perch to perch.

thanks Ikon and Liv, the cage is big enough for 3 but I was unsure of the family dynamics...... I'd love to keep one (if they hatch)
