Apart from a regular great seed what other healthy things should you feed to you budgie? Like vegies or something as a regular thing with the seed they get? I buy a packet of mixed vegies and feed them to my cockatiels can I do this with my budgies as well?

Thank You

Yes you can do it with budgies aswell... there's many articles on veggies and feeds in our FAQ's check them out :budgiedance:

My guys love any dark greens, carrot and corn :D

Hello and welcome!!

You are in the right place to get all the answers you could ever imagine! :budgiedance:

budgies love carrots, peas, corn, apple, spinach, snow peas, boc choi, oranges, pears.... and the list goes onnnn......

Just be sure that all food is washed, deseeded and in a condition suitable for human consumption. Canned vegies are to salty. :feedbirds:

Apple? I read I think on this site somewhere that apple is fatal?

Only the seeds are toxic. Just cut them up and remove the core as if your were giving it to a child :budgiedance:

How long should you leave veggies and fruit in the cage or aviary? Once it is put in for them to eat? Should you replace it daily? or every couple of days? Or even after a few hours? I dont buy like fresh veggies from the shop because I end up throwing most of it out so I buy the mixed veggies stir fry without the sauce of course or just plan mixed veggies. I defrost them in the microwave is that okay also?

Fresh veggies are better, leave for no longer than a day(12 hours) MAX in cooler weather less in hotter! feeding them in evening or night time is best, as that's when they're most activly feeding. Packet veggies are acceptable, but the fresher the better, and certainly not served after cooking, as it's not filled with as many nutrients after being nuked, boiled, steamed or however you do them :)

Here is a link to our Food and Nutrition FAQ section Click Here there is a wide variety of foods you can feed your budgies it is best to stay with veggies for main foods other then seeds and fruits are a great treat because of the sugar content and many can cause water poos (such as to much apples) oh and iceburg lettuce (though a veggie) has no nutritional value and can cause water poos too. Variety is best stick with dark green veggies they are very nutritional such as your spinach, brocolli, kale etc...

Hi... I feed my tiels and budgies seed daily and fresh fruit and vegies (as the others stated). They also have access to fresh water (replaced daily), cuttlefish bone, occasional native branches and the odd treat of millet...
