Posted February 18, 200817 yr I have two babies who are 5 months old and still in the baby aviary, as I am well aware they are too young to breed yet. They are really closely bonded and from two different sets of parents and I have to admit I am excited about them breeding WHEN it is time. I was wondering though, not that I have seen them mating or anything and they have nowhere to lay if they are, is there a possibility they could mate and she could conceive and become egg bound? This is more a question of curiousity than me actually thinking it has happened or anything. They are just such an in love little couple. Her cere is brown and they are showing signs of wanting to breed, but I wouldnt risk her health and they wont be out of the baby aviary til they are 12 months old. I had to add pics of course....... :budgiedance: Shadow the cock on the left and Indigo the hen on the right. They are in an aviary of babies and they are inseparable.
February 18, 200817 yr They are lovely looking babies. I have to say. i have babies that are just coming out of their first moult and two are mating like crazy (teen's :budgiedance: i don't know!) they haven't produced any eggs, and they have nowhere to lay either but i am thinking about separating these two before they get too tired (Laughing out loud). I don't believe that its the egg that harms a young bird, but more the raising of the chicks that is taxing on their health.
February 18, 200817 yr Author Haha......well I havent caught them mating, just "snogging" alot (Laughing out loud). I would prefer not to separate them, but I will if it poses a problem. I would like them to stay bonded :budgiedance:
February 18, 200817 yr I'd say there is a possibilty but not a high chance :budgiedance: i have lots of birds who're young with partners but nothing eventuates from them And signs though just check her :hap:
February 18, 200817 yr I have had three month old mating in the avairy and had to seperate them. Most of the time they wont lay eggs from mating unless there are nestboxes around, in which case the very sight of a nestbox makes them want to lay as you know. I have had a young hen mate in the aviary and become eggbound and died ....she was mating with every boy in the aviary and did begin to produce eggs. By the time I found her she was on her last legs and died that night. Others I have had have mated at 3-5 months and some I had to seperate from all the rest till they got over the behaviour for awhile. I guess you will have to watch them and step in to seperate if things seem to move to the point of making and laying eggs. But often I find "stray eggs" in my aviary and I put it down to young and silly hens who know no better. :budgiedance: Edited February 18, 200817 yr by KAZ
February 18, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the comments and advice. They dont seem excitable and like they are mating, though I cant watch them all the time. They just are very snuggly and its very cute and I was wondering about the possibilities :budgiedance:
February 18, 200817 yr Thanks Kaz, I will separate mine. There is way too much hanky-panky going on for my liking.
February 19, 200817 yr Very cute couple Sunny. Lets hope they can keep their pants on for atleast another 7mths and don't need to be separated. :bluebudgie:
February 19, 200817 yr Author Thank you :bluebudgie: Well they both have cinnamon and violet colouring, so you can guess what Im hoping for! It's nice they come from my very first and favourite pair of pairs too (Did that make sense?) :(Laughing out loud):
