Posted February 17, 200817 yr I have the biggest issue with getting new branches putting them in the cage and the next day they are all dried up and sad looking. At the pet shop today and saw them putting branches in an old coke bottle with water and then attaching this to the inside of the bird cage. What a great Idea. Came home and did this, outside of the false start where Blue worked out that you would pull the branches out of the bottle and attempting to fly with them I then made sure he could not do this. Never thought of doing this and such a great idea.
February 17, 200817 yr that is a great idea,my budgies will not eat the leaves when they start drying out.
February 17, 200817 yr That’s only an issue when you keep only a few birds, the branches don’t last long enough in my aviary for that to be necessary. They are totally stripped in a few hours.

Yeah same with mine they just strip the branch and leave all the leaves on the bottom of the cage for me to clean out. True, sometimes my guys strip them in a few hours other times it will take them a few days and by then they are past the point of no return so they just ignore them and I feel like it is a waste.
February 19, 200817 yr It is a good idea, but my budgies also go through the branches that quick it wouldn't make much difference .
February 19, 200817 yr Author My birds stip them within a day Same with mine however after a 34oC day they will not touch whatever is left as they all dry out really quick
February 19, 200817 yr As I choose young natural bush branches ...these do not last longer than the next day...gone and enjoyed in a moment of frenzied activity...especially peppermint tree. Sometimes I leaves the branches in the avairy for playing on for a little longer. But I try to give the birds fresh branches 3 times a week and hibiscus from our hedges in between.

Kaz, when you use the Hibiscus, do you give them the flower and stems or just the stems?
