Posted February 13, 200817 yr It's been a week since I did my (bird whispering) tactic, with my poor noisy little boy the Weebil. What a difference in the household now ! He has not screamed or screeched once since before the day I started working with him. All my neighbors thought I gave him away they hadn't heard him do this annoying screech for a week now. Impressive yes ? YES IT IS !!!! Each day he comes out of the cage on my or my girlfriends hand. He will let us walk around the house to all the rooms with him on our fingers. He understands & does the command STEP UP. Now the hen does this too. Makes me wanna do the budgie happy dance to see them listen to us ! DANCE DANCE DANCE !!!! Each bird is getting more & more comfortable with us daily. But he is the most impressive. We allow them to do their own everyday budgie things, play, bathe & eat up on the play center. But now we are feeling more secure that we can get both birds to step up & go back in their cage should we need to move them for safety reasons. I am pleased at this. I am sure that things are going to get better for this little bird. The fear he showed of us before is almost next to nothing. He is growing more confident & now is interested in singing more & interacting with us. I think he likes the adventures we have been showing him around the house. I have stood at the window with him on my finger & watched him staring fascinated outside. This was the best thing I could have done for him. Some may think or say it was drastic or not the best way to reach a budgie & his tormented soul. But I wasn't going to give up. So I got some good training advice from Terri at Budgie Talk & what she has advised me to do training him is working. I am very very very pleased now. Doing the budgie dance all over !!!! Thanks to everyone for advice & help & leading me on this mission for a happy budgie. Nick
February 14, 200817 yr Great stuff. I hope your budgies are much happier... as well as your neighbours!!!!
February 14, 200817 yr Nick I am glad to hear his turn around how wonderful and relieved you can be now and simply enjoy him and her
February 14, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the nice words from you all. It sure is much quieter now. My girlfriend & I look forward to the future with him now. My gf was never able to go near either of these birds & now she has hands on with both birds & feels such awe at being able to. Amazing little birds ... I still say they control us. Not the other way around.
March 11, 200817 yr Hey there... I was just wondering how the Weebil is going? Is it still nice and quiet? I hope so!
March 11, 200817 yr Hey NickNack, that is so great! He must have been a VERY noisy bird, or your neighbours have paper walls! Poor thing, he must be so much more relaxed now. Well done. Feathers.
March 12, 200817 yr Author The Weebil is a new bird. He steps up willingly & CALMLY !!!!!! Without my command the moment I place my hand in the cage & readily comes out to hang about the play center with his lady budgie. He has stopped screeching completely .... I haven't heard that noise for over 4 or 6 weeks now ? I cannot believe the peace & quiet it has brought to us all. No screeching noises at all .... except for the odd dang cricket chirping we hear from time to time. I have a daily hands on with both birds separately which works well. And I was surprised to find the leg band on Weebil says 2005. So he is much older then I was told, but he was so freaked & panicky to get near I couldnt read his band until now. And I doubt anyone else could for fear of him having a heart attack. He was such a disaster bird rescue. With Spring coming we put our clocks forward an hour & there is more light & oddly sunshine between the bouts of snow storms we've been having. So both birds have been playful & silly doing the budgie boogie dance & charming their ways into my heart as they always do. I am thankful that things have worked out as well as they have.
March 12, 200817 yr thanks for the update. it is great to hear that it is working out for you and your budgies
March 12, 200817 yr It sounds like you have worked wonders... Congrats! I'm sure he really appreciates what you have done for him. clap, clap clap to YOU!
March 12, 200817 yr Author Thanks to all for the kind words. I never thought anything would work with this tortured little bird. I am so pleased to have gotten this far. I would have been just as happy to have had that horrible screeching stop ... & nothing more. Obviously he showed me there was more to him ... he just needed the chance to show he had something special in him calling out for help. BUT DID HE HAVE TO USE SUCH A LOUD VOICE ? SHEEEESH !!!!!

Sometimes a loud voice is what's needed to be heard... over all that past pain and hurt! I'm sure the two of you will have a special bond together. xxx
March 13, 200817 yr Author I'm sure the two of you will have a special bond together. Maesie ... you read my mind. Just today the Weebil was sitting on top of the play center while the hen was in the cage chewing. THE HEN IS ALWAYS EATING ! He was staring at me & I started talking to him ... soft voiced ... asking whats up ? hows he doing ? whats new ? You know ... just budgie chit chat. He started voicing back. Ever so softly & lightly little chatting back to me. STARING ME IN THE FACE ! He really paid close attention & kept getting closer & closer to the edge of the play center towards my desk & we had a good 20 minutes eyeball to eyeball chat. His head was moving in angles like he was trying to understand more & he showed there is more to him then I could ever imagine. After all that I walked up to him at the play center & he didn't run back or away ... I offered my hand & he jumped up & I placed him in the cage so he could eat ... cause the HEN IS ALWAYS EATING & I SWEAR HE WILL STARVE BECAUSE OF HER !!!!!! I was stunned by this. I felt ... like he gave me a gift. Strange eh ?
