We see so many gorgeous pictures of our young feathered friends. I was thinking it would be nice to share some pictures and stories of the seniors in our lives too. It would be nice to eventually get all the different stages of budgie aging for people to see.

6 years , 7 years, 8 years, and so on …

Here goes.....

Name: Whitie

Gender: Female

Age: 14 years (Jan 94)

Medical History:

  • egg binding x 2 – never had babies
  • deformed beak and cere – from old age

Still with us: Yes

Story:

She came into my life 14 years ago (when I was 11 years old). She is from the first clutch I ever bred, and I feel she has done very well to get this far.

Whitie has a toy boy (Yellow 3 year old male) who feeds her, preens her and snuggles with her. He never leaves her side – It's very special to see.

:) Sorry Liv, good post, should have put "Old Happy" in here. ^_^

Henry is my oldest boy, he is 7 years old so not as old as Whitie. He was my first budgie and he started my love for budgies. he is bigger than my other budgies so i have always wondered is he a show budgie or just a big pet budgie.

Henry is very handsome! :)

I think you are right -he looks like a (non-fluffy) show type doesn't he :P

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Whitie is adorable. She's a lovely old darling... :) Henry is a spunk too! All mine are under 3 years old, so I don't have any pics to add here, but I look forward to see all of the older generation popping by to say hello!

very awesome post, I sadly don't have any experience yet with older budgie except for my grandma's who lived to be 15y (out lived her in the end) and was in a tiny cage, ate seed and lettuce for treats and had a MIRROR (Laughing out loud) kind of like someone who smokes and lives to be 102 :).

I wonder if budgies are like dogs in age .... You know how they say 1 dog year is really 7 years in a dogs life ?

So ... 1 budgie year might be 7 budgie years in life ? NO ? okay never mind ... I am just blathering.

Thats a cute story, Elly. Your grandma must have taken very good care of her little bird. She didn't slip some Guinness in his drinking water each night did she?? hehe. :P:D

I think their aging is very like dogs - i think it's something like 8 years to our 1. A 7 year old budgie is middle aged :D

So are you saying our 1 year old budgie is 7 or 8 years old in budgie years Liv ?

Cute birds guys!!!... I'm sure there's a way to actually work out Age comparisons between human and budgie, just by the way Of how fast they develop.... But can any one be bothered working out the math ratios of average ages/ development to get the answer :D ?

Hmmm. Good point. I wouldn't let a 7-8 year old girl have babies.... so maybe not 7-8 bird years to our 1.... Must be more like 25 bird years to our 1 which means that my 14 year old Whitie is 350 bird years old - (Laughing out loud)!! :P

I dont really know how the "years" thing works. It might be done by taking the average life expectancy of humans, and deviding it by the life expectancy of the animal and you get the amount of Animal years to Human years????? :D

Gads ... I hate math.

All I read in that post you said Liv, was 7 - 8 babies ... yadda yadda yadda, blank blank blank ... no offense ... its just the MATH. (Laughing out loud)
