Chit Chat Before & During Naps.

Just as my hen is settling into a nap during the day ... or before she goes to sleep at night. SHE CHITTER CHATS ... the sounds coming from her are so sweet. They are soft little whistles & high notes & chits & chutters & coos of many different sounds that make you think she is soooooo darn cute ! & I want to kiss her to death !!!!!!

I often talk to her during this time & she will be even more vocal. Her head is tucked under her wing & she will still do this amazing little talk while it sounds like like she is scolding me in budgie babble to shut up cause she's dreaming & doesn't want to be disturbed.

Do your birds babble like this too ?

yes and this is the best time to talk to them because they are really focusing, I wouldn't be surprised if she started to mimic whistles you do and maybe talk :oliveb:

Yes....its really cool. Even cooler is a couple of hundred budgies doing it. Its like a band practising just before the begin a concert :oliveb:

Yes my budgies do this too :oliveb: .

The worst one by far is Skittles, whenever he sits still he chatters away to himself and I just love it when he sits on my shoulder and does it. But then you get this one loud SCREEEEECH! and go deaf for a few hours :oliveb: .

:ygbudgie: Some of mine do it, some do not. My favourite budgie of all time, Mickey, even though covered, would give a LOUD CHEEP, Attention Please!, when he thought it was time to get up and carry on ALL day, even when napping and then would give a little contented peep at night when he was covered over to signal the all day concert was at an end. By himself, he was LOUDER than all the 6 budgies I have together and he is the only budgie I can ever say who has "soul". But yes, half of mine have lovely little songs, with their heads under their wings during nap time. :oliveb:

My budgies do it all the time. Especially Scooter. He never shuts up (Laughing out loud). Even when half asleep. :(Laughing out loud): He'll be all tucked in with his head behind his wing and you can still hear him having whole conversations with himself. :(Laughing out loud):

 My Oscar does that all the time and I make the most of it whenever I can. He seems to pay more attention to what I am saying at these times and I always talk loads to him when I have covered him up for the night.

In the last two weeks I have taught him to wolf whistle, wistle for us to come over to him, he now says pretty boy and as of today he is learning to say, "Oscars got a secret, psew psew psew." And he whispers the secret bit to us. It is sooooo cute. We are hard up for ideas of what to teach him though. So if anyone has any ideas let me know. My husband can only come up with swear words, so any ideas would be better than what he is coming up with!!!

They are so cute when they chatter away to themselves though. Oscar takes a while to warm up in the morning and once he does, he wanders around the table while we are eating breaky and chatters up a storm. He also likes to occasionally swim in our cereal, so we have to really watch him. Many a bowl of cereal has had to be thrown out because he has done a lap in it!!

I love hearing about all of your birds as well.

Hugs to all.

Charlie & Benny take turns talking / whistling to each other - mostly when they are out of the cage. I let them out in the kids play room where there is always lots of toys and blocks scattered. Just like having 2 more kids really. I thought this morning they were having a real game of "Hide & seek". They were sitting on the back of the lounge for a while, then Charlie flew off and hopped behind a box & let out a couple of chirps. Benny chirped back, then Charlie, then Benny. Could almost imagine them saying "Come find me" "Where are you" "Here I am" .

Backstroke ? or Breaststroke ? swimming in the cereal bowl ... theres a first !

My talking budgie who is no longer with me ... use to say some sweet things.

WHO'S YER DADDY ! WHATCHADOIN ? HERE KITTY KITTY ! WOOF WOOF !

KNOCK KNOCK WHO'S THERE .... he didn't quite get that joke. Heh heh.

The more emotion & inflection we placed in our voices made him pick up words faster.

I won't write the nasty words my g/f at the time use to call me all the time. My little budgie buddy picked that one up real fast & said it as clear as a bell !
