Purpose Of Charcoal In Cage

Featured Replies

In one of the article's, I have come across stating that we should place charcoal in the cage, but not very sure or remembering where I have read this.

It will be greatful if some one can provide me with the exact purpose of this.

Thanks,

Karthik

I have read it can help with digestive I know with dogs you can buy charocal biscuits where it helps with "passing gas" I used to feed them to my late dog Skippy. I know there was a discussion before on this on the boards last year sometime if you want to do a search too.

I have a mineral supplement for my birds that contains charcoal. It is given to the birds in little containers and they help themselves.

when l first got my budgies, the pet store told me to give them just a tiny amount of charcoal, to help the budgies if they had a bit of runny poo or diarrhea. l never did give it to them since they had no runny poo or diarrhea.

l'm not sure if this info is correct since it was given to me buy petstore employee's, and at a time before l found this great forum :)

Your right Birdluv , The charcoal will detox the bowel and to act as a contractive to maintain bowel health and prevent a wet nest in the breeding cabinet

Thanks to everyone. So far I never heard of this. Okay can we place a charcol piece inside the cage like cuttlebone, so that when ever if at all a Budgie requires it will have it or we have to powder and mix a small portion in the seedmix or mineral block?

I am interested to know more on, how do we prepare our own mineral supplements like what all things we need to mix and on what proportions.

Mineral supplements are fed in finger draws in the breed cage or in stainless cups.

The birds eat as much or as little as they feel.

Thanks Daz.

How do we prepare our own mineral supplements, since here in my place I don't find one readily available in the stores. Also is it sufficient to clean charcoal piece with the tap water before placing it in the cage?
