Hey guys,

 

I have a question that i am confused about as i have been given 2 very different opinions and really want to do the right thing ..... i have a female who will be ready to breed in September (yes some time away, but i want to have my head around it) and 2 males that i am undecided which one to put with her ..... can i put them both in the breeding cabinet with her and let her chose which she likes best? I have know that 2 hens and 1 cock is bad ... but am unsure about the reverse, especially given that they are all very quite birds?

 

Help would be appreciated, thanks

Not a good idea...pick the one you like best and the hen will be happy about it once she sees she has a nesting box. :budgiedance:

Agree with KAZ Pick one cock to be with the hen... which best compliments her, or what you'd like to receive from the babies

I agree with Kaz there you don't want any fighting or injury.

if you put two males while breeding conditions exist, the males will fight if one interrupts the other while courting/mating the hen. It's best to either pick a cockbird to be with her or between now and September watch them all together often and see which ones seem to pair up if you prefer. But I agree with Kaz.. one male and one female once you put them in a breeding cage with the nestbox.

Thanks everyone for the advice - i will watch the three of them in the aviary until then and see if she bonds or favours one or the other

Agree with all. Let her chose her mate in the avairy and them put them in a breeding cage, you will have greater success this way
